Above HN photos: Last Wednesday evening, Barnstable patrol officers on the “four-to-mid” responded to a motor vehicle crash where they would eventually receive word it was actually a homicide…
… which sort of changed things for the remainder, as they did their utmost to make an arrest, while securing a rolling crime scene.
Above HN photo: Patrolman Peter Myrbeck located a missing Alzheimer’s patient last week. The man was reported missing from a Centerville address, and last seen hours earlier. Aside from a photo and a basic clothing description, police had an extra clue that perhaps the gentleman would be making his way to one of our nearby beaches. A number of officers began checking Centerville beaches to no avail, while Patrolman Myrbeck – thinking outside of the village – eventually found the man in Osterville, just several blocks from Dowses Beach, a very healthy distance from where he was last seen. An ambulance was called for a precautionary evaluation, which the old fella reportedly passed with flying colors.
Above HN photos: There was a two-vehicle crash on Route 28 the other night, near the intersection with Captain Ellis Lane. Hyannis Rescue responded to check on the occupants of both vehicles and, thankfully, there were no injuries. Route 28 was closed for a period of time while officials worked the scene. Meanwhile, the occupants sat on a guardrail, checking their cellphones and seemingly taking it all in stride… as the Barnstable PD was investigating the cause of the crash.
Above HN photo: It was the witching hour when police in Barnstable were called to the Saint Francis Xavier Cemetery in Centerville last week. There had been a complaint about a disturbance, where someone had been leaning on a car’s horn. Officers found a quarreling young couple who had been out for a ride, visiting the dead… leaning on horns… and Lord knows what else at 3:30 a.m.
The couple was told to go elsewhere.

Above photos: First responders at the Ocean Street Docks after a woman fell and struck her head…
Above photos: Police and Hyannis Firefighters received a report of a woman convulsing in the middle of Otis Road this afternoon. The first officers on scene found a young, extremely disoriented woman in the middle of some roadside shrubbery. It wasn’t a convulsion but more likely some type of adverse drug reaction, sources say. The woman was transported to CCH…
Above photo: These two “lovebirds” were admittedly just involved in hand-to-hand combat on the Hyannis Village Green bandstand earlier today. One said the other had been spitting blood and punching him, while ripping off his thousand-dollar gold chain. The other, a 74-year-old man, said he was the one being attacked…
… passing downtown visitors with young children were not amused. Police arrived soon after this photo was taken. And the two were offered the keys to town hall, where they were invited out of the rain for tea and crumpets in the air conditioning…
… actually, that didn’t happen. Okay, I didn’t stick around for the actual outcome, but I’m fairly certain the keys to town hall were not an option… and I know this because those offices are reserved for the town’s advanced problem solvers and visionaries. It’s a civilized place with a lot of important signs and rules, where blood spitting and chain ripping are not allowed!
