HN PHOTO NOTES: Charlotte Sturgis is graduating from St. John Paul II High School this spring. Yesterday afternoon, Charlotte’s high school lacrosse team was honoring seniors and their parents before the game for “senior night.” (The game was at the Pop Warner Field in Sandwich.) Traditionally, graduating seniors and their parents walk onto the field as part of the senior night celebration. It was an especially important moment for Charlotte and her teammates because she happens to be the only senior player this year. Charlotte tragically lost her dad nearly 5 years ago. In July of 2019, Sergeant Jason Sturgis of the Barnstable Police died unexpectedly from a medical event. Sergeant Sturgis was just 42 years old and married with three young children at the time of his sudden passing. Sergeant Sturgis was a passionate and committed 19-year veteran of the BPD, who notably advocated for the downtrodden and disenfranchised, including the homeless and those suffering from disabilities. First and foremost, Sergeant Sturgis was a dad who valued his commitment to his young family. Upon learning about yesterday’s senior night, his brother and sister police officers wanted to accompany Charlotte onto the field while carrying their love for her father in their hearts. They wanted to be there for young Charlotte during this very important moment in her life. Charlotte tried to hold back tears upon being surprised by Barnstable Police Officers arriving at her lacrosse game. Her mother knew but I don’t think Charlotte knew. Coaches and teammates spoke about Charlotte’s altruistic qualities as a teammate, fellow student, and friend. As you will see in the following HN photos, Charlotte and her teammates took the field… and Charlotte won the opening draw (face-off)! Charlotte plans on attending Stonehill College in the fall (my alma matter – we fist bumped when I told her). She was excited and all smiles.  The show of support meant the world to her.   God bless her!                                         P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is a brought to you by Philip Glass…[CLICK IT/CRANK IT!
