HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN PHOTO NOTES] –  Barnstable Police patrol officers caught up to an alleged hit-and-run run driver late last evening. The initial crash left an SUV damaged and disabled at the Route 28 entrance to the Cape Cod Mall. (Three individuals needed to be evaluated by Hyannis Rescue but were not transported.) Responding officers were advised a silver sedan had just fled the crash scene, traveling west on Route 28. The sedan crossed Bearses Way and turned right onto Pitcher’s Way. The fleeing sedan had already traveled about 2 miles when a patrolman spotted it near the intersection of Pitcher’s Way and Bearses Way.   During a traffic stop of the hit-and-run suspect vehicle, officers had a difficult time communicating with the occupants of the silver sedan due to a language barrier. Inside his cruiser, an officer used a special cellphone to connect the driver with a Portuguese/English translator.   The driver apparently passed field sobriety tests but ended up being charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash, along with being unlicensed.   Meanwhile, back at the Route 28 entrance to the Cape Cod Mall, a member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s crime scene photographer documented the damage to vehicle that did not flee the scene…   *  Defendants are presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.   P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is brought to you by Herbie Hancock…  [CLICK IT/CRANK IT!
