HYANNIS, Massachusetts –  The wind was ripping as fire broke out on the outside of a duplex home Thursday evening. As you will see, the homeowner sprung into action and was able to quickly knock down the flames with a garden hose as first responders were arriving on scene. A Barnstable Police Sergeant hit the hot spots with an extinguisher as Hyannis Firefighters stretched a line to more thoroughly wet down the home’s exterior sheathing. Firefighters then removed debris and damaged siding in order to check for extension. A young family with very young children, including an infant, managed to evacuate the home safely. As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, the quick actions of all involved prevented the stiff wind gust from making matters much worse. Additional rescue photos are from West Barnstable FD/HN edits…   IN OTHER NEWS:     WOMAN TRANSPORTED FROM HYANNIS CRASH SCENE [HN PHOTO]         HYANNIS – A woman in her late 70s was transported to Cape Cod Hospital, complaining of pain from injuries not believed to be life-threatening, after a crash on Old Craigville Rd, near the intersection with West Main Street Thursday evening. The crash happened shortly before 6pm. The Barnstable Police Department, assisted by a sheriff’s crime scene photographer, is investigating. Both vehicles needed to be towed from the scene.
