MULTIPLE REPORTS OF GUNFIRE IN NORMALLY QUIET CAPE TOWN WEDNESDAY EVENING

HN IMAGE: Harwich patrolmen search a parking lot for shell casings at an address on Old County Road Wednesday evening.   HARWICH PORT, Massachusetts –  According to a Harwich PD media statement, at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, “the Harwich Police Department responded to a disturbance call with possible gun shots in the area of Old County Road. The incident is currently under investigation by [] Patrol Officer Ridenour and the Harwich Police Detective Division. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police department.” NOTES: HN also responded to the area of the multiple reports of gunshots near the intersection of Old County Road and Route 28 Wednesday evening. While enroute, officers were updated regarding the situation from additional callers, according to radio transmissions. One person reported seeing a man running through a backyard in the area. Another described a group of men being in some type of disturbance near to one of the cottages at 10 Old County Road. HPD patrol officers arrived quickly and began investigating. They didn’t find anyone injured… but were interested in at least one vehicle seen leaving the area. In a separate, recent incident, across the street from the cottages at 10 Old County Road, there’s the Stone Horse Apartments where 30-year-old Akeem Drysdale was stabbed to death in November of 2022. On May 8, 2023, District Attorney Robert J. Galibois announced that Aneka Brown, 36, of Harwich, was indicted by a Barnstable County Grand Jury on May 5, 2023 on the charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon. A couple of the individuals reported (in emerging English) hearing what sounded like one gunshot, followed by four or five additional gunshots.  They were certain the loud bangs sounded like gunshots and not fireworks.  (They did not know the word for “fireworks” at first…) Harwich officers saturated and searched the area. No shell casings were located during the search of the grounds and parking area at the 10 Old County Road cottages, according to sources.
