Yarmouth Port is 1 of the 3 villages of Yarmouth. Yarmouth is situated mid Cape between Barnstable & Dennis. The town spans to both the inner & outer Cape shores. Yarmouth Port is on the inner shore and is quieter than the Rt 28 side.   Old King’s Highway in Yarmouth Port is also 6A, and it is a busy street. Still, I wanted to check out the historic homes of the Captain’s Mile, so I spent some time walking the street. While the houses are all privately owned, so they can only be appreciated from the sidewalk, they are also beautifully kept up. Look for the Schooner logo that signals the houses that were once owned by sea captains.    I spent the morning perusing the handful of local shops:   Parnassus Book Services – a used book store that is organized by theme, including a Cape section.  They also have a nice selection of maps.   Home goods/gift stores like Simply Vintage of Cape Cod & Design Works.   Lighthouse Keeper’s Pantry – a coffeeshop/café with grab and go salads and sandwiches as well as a small market.   Next up was the Edward Gorey House. If you’re a fan of Tim Burton or the macabre, you’ll enjoy the illustrations of Edward Gorey. The museum presents an optional 10 minute talk about his life & work at the top of every hour. With vignettes, artwork and bric-a-brac everywhere, this is is the type of place that can’t be processed in 1 visit. For this visit, I focused on completing the Ghastlycrumb Tinies scavenger hunt. As someone who is a huge fan of games & puzzles, this was the perfect way to enjoy the museum. I even got a small prize for completing the quest.   Just outside of the Edward Gorey House was one of the Yarmouth’s Sand Sculptures. While this was not originally on my itinerary, I think searching for all the Sand Sculptures could be a cool way to see the town as well.   I spent the afternoon at Grey’s beach.  Grey’s beach is on the smaller side & will cost you $20 (cash only) to park. However, it has a boardwalk out into the marsh, and when it’s low tide, the beach becomes a “choose your own adventure” where you can walk through the small rivers/tidal pools and find your own quiet space.  If you go, just make sure to pay attention to the tide so that you make your way back to shore before the river gets too intense.     Google Maps of locations visited               On the Map   Proudly powered by WordPress
