My last few days on Cape Cod this trip took me a few drives away. In 2021, I had arranged to meet a longtime friend but a ferocious storm blew in (Nor’easter) upending any plans. This time, we met in Duxbury for lunch, a town between the Cape and her home near Boston. Rowers were learning their skills in the nearby harbor.

Those who knew the area urged me to catch the annual Hydrangea festival in Sandwich, on the northwest corner of the Cape. Held at the Heritage Museums & Gardens, there was so much to see in the gardens besides the famous flowers. Paths wind through varied and colorful terraces and nooks in a sprawling green park. (I didn’t have time to check out the museums since I had committed to picking up my son and his wife at the airport in the afternoon.)
The love of the gardeners for their creations and the design of the clusters of diverse plants were evident; representing every color in the rainbow. Although I was there to see the extensive display of the flowers I knew as snowballs as a child, my favorites were the Day Lilies.

My calendar was open for the next week so instead of heading back home after my Cape Cod visit, I spent most of the week in Boston, wandering around, a city I had yet to explore. Check back soon for Boston stories and photos.
