HYANNIS, Massachusetts – The reporting party (“R.P.”) stated his home was just invaded, according to a police dispatch radio transmission. As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, at around 6:12 a.m. this morning, police rushed to an address on Snow Creek Drive (a small, normally quiet neighborhood off of Old Colony Road), for reports the intruders still might be on scene. Officers were able to quickly take one of two alleged suspects into custody. He was arrested and will be charged with B&E Nighttime – “for now” – with possible additional charges pending as the investigation unfolds. A second suspect is believed to have fled the area on foot. At one point, he may have brandished a firearm, according to radio transmissions. A parameter was set up as a K9 and handler attempted to track the second suspect. While tracking, an additional Barnstable Police patrolman followed along with a patrol rifle, in case the K9 unit needed backup. There were at least four adults, two males and two females, inside the residence at the time of this morning’s alleged breaking and entering. A bathroom door was reportedly kicked in during the course of the intrusion. Details as to what actually happened inside the residence are still unclear. A large kitchen knife was photographed and collected as evidence. At this time, it is believed the knife was used to help defend the home against the intruders. It is currently believed the suspects are not known by the occupants of the residence, according to a source. A police drone with a FLIR infrared camera was deployed over the neighborhood to check whether the second suspect may still be hiding in the area. Residents woke up to police swarming their neighborhood, some wondering what was going on, others on their way to Sunday mass. One woman exited her driveway carrying small dog she wanted to walk, and inquired whether it was safe to do so. She was advised that she was free to pass, but that it would better if she didn’t mind waiting until after the police K9 finished working the immediate area. Hugging her small dog, she quickly accepted the current situation without protest and gladly returned inside her home with her pet. The investigation and search for the second suspect is active and ongoing. HN will provide updates as they become available. The following HN Video highlights the scene and includes some of the police radio transmissions from this morning’s crime scene. All defendants are presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
