I want to start out by saying that I absolutely love Cape Cod. I loved it as a kid. I love it even more as an adult. I love going down the Cape with my wife and family, but I’ve also been known to take a drive down by myself. There are just so many awesome places for food, drinks, and views. You can’t go wrong. Here are my takeaways from this past weekend.   Disclaimer: These are all my personal opinions. No free ads. Honest reviews only.   Kream ‘N Kone is still elite   My wife and I were able to beat most of the traffic on Friday, checked into our hotel, and headed straight for Kream ‘N Kone. While most people go to KNK for fried seafood, I was in the mood for 🦞, so I got the 🦞 roll. We took our food, got in the car, and headed to West Dennis Beach for a little al fresco dining. The portion was solid. Light mayo, crisp lettuce bed, and a soft bun.       It hit the spot and was the perfect way to start the weekend.   Pirate’s Cove is the 🐐   After dinner, my wife and I went to her go-to mini golf place, Holiday Hill. After realizing I left my free game card at home, we paid full price for a round of 18. It was after paying that we were told that Hole 15 was unavailable and Hole 16 had some heavy water. Woof. Holiday Hill also has its fair share of fluky holes. On more than one occasion, I just put my ball down and whacked it with zero aim whatsoever. All of this further cements that Pirate’s Cove is the GOAT when it comes to mini golf. No question about it. And I did win, for those keeping score at home.   Mayflower Beach is a 🔟   Friday night, I set my alarm for 6:30. That’s how important it is to get up and out for a day at Mayflower. My excitement woke me up at 6:23 before the alarm. We were on the beach by 7:30. One small issue was that it was cloudy. The forecast had changed and it looked like the sun would remain hidden until late afternoon. I had faith though. I probably said “It’ll burn off” four or five times, just like my father always says. Sure enough, around 10:30, it started to burn off. By midday, there was more blue than grey in the sky.   And honestly, the day didn’t even need the sun. That’s how great Mayflower is. With low tide, there is plenty of real estate for walking, playing games, or just relaxing. I found a massive shell during low tide. And I had about 7,000 steps before my Fitbit started a slow water death.       Another thing I have to mention is the amenities. Mayflower underwent a massive renovation a few years ago and is a game-changer. I highly recommend the strawberry lemonade. After lunch and a couple more trips down to the water, we left around 2:00. Quick 7:30-2 shift.   The Skipper was incredible   After Mayflower, we went back to the hotel to freshen up, relax, and get ready for dinner. I knew what I wanted. I had heard nothing but great things about The Skipper in Yarmouth. We got there just before the rush and were able to get a table on the second-level deck. From my seat, I could see the ocean. Can’t beat that.   I ordered the strawberry mint julep. Very refreshing. For dinner, I started with a cup of clam chowder. It was delicious. Good thickness. Good balance of clams and potatoes. The perfect portion for a starter. For my entrée, I got the fish taco. Yes, it is technically just one taco. But it is absolutely massive. After breaking it in half, I was able to really dig in. The haddock was fried golden and juicy on the inside. The salsa was fresh. And the chipotle mayo brought everything together. I almost forgot to mention the house-made seasoned potato chips.       The Skipper has a new fan. I will be back.   Leaving the Cape is the worst   As with any getaway or vacation, the absolute worst is when it ends. Sunday morning meant this time down the Cape had come to an end. We got up, packed, and began the trek home. Until next time.   I ❤️ Cape Cod.
