Free gun-lock distribution is a significant component of the non-partisan LOCK IT UP campaign, launched by the Cape Cod Grandmothers Against Gun Violence organization in 2017. This initiative focuses on one of the organization’s key objectives - to educate the public on gun safety measures to reduce unintentional deaths and suicides. Firearms are now the leading cause of death for children and teens (ages 1 to 19) in the United States, and a large percentage of these deaths are a direct result of unsecured firearms in the home.

“Unsecured firearms are a significant cause of death both inside and outside of the home. Responsible gun ownership entails securing your firearm unloaded with ammunition and the firearm in a separate location. And in Massachusetts, it is the law.”

-- Donna Wald, President, Grandmothers Against Gun Violence

Founded in 2012 after the Sandy Hook tragedy, Grandmothers Against Gun Violence’s mission is to educate its members, ollaborate with other groups who share the organization’s concerns, and advocate for public policy and legislation leading to reduced gun violence in all communities.
