CARVER, MASSACHUSETTS – According to a media statement, Chief Marc Duphily reports that the Carver Police Department has charged a Maine man in connection with a shooting last week at Sampson Pond.
ANTHONY A. DELMAN, AGE 37, of FRYEBURG, MAINE, is charged with:
- Armed Assault with Intent to Murder
- Discharging a Firearm Within 500 Feet of a Dwelling
- Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon on a Pregnant Victim
- Possession of a Firearm Without a Firearms Identification Card
- Firearm Violation with Two Prior Violent/Drug Crimes
On Wednesday, Aug. 13, at around 7:37 p.m., a woman arrived at the Carver police station and reported that she had been shot at Sampson Pond.
Officers observed what appeared to be a gunshot wound to her leg. She was taken by Carver EMS to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth with non-life-threatening injuries.
Following a comprehensive investigation by Carver Police, Anthony A. Delman was identified as the suspect, and an arrest warrant was issued in Wareham District Court on Wednesday afternoon, August 20, 2025.
Delman, who remains in custody in connection with a shooting in Dennis later that night on Aug. 13, 2025, will be arraigned in Wareham District Court at a later date.
“This case was an excellent example of good, solid police work and cooperation between agencies, which has resulted in the arrest of a violent person willing to shoot a pregnant woman,” said Chief Duphily of the Carver Police Department.
Last week, Hyannis News reported on an active investigation in Dennis following a shooting incident that led to a male arriving at Cape Cod Hospital with a gunshot wound.
On Wednesday, August 13 at around 9:05 pm, a 9-1-1 call came into the Dennis Police Department reporting the sound of a loud bang followed by a male crying, hopping, and limping around in a parking lot near Buncey’s Pizza & Sports Cafe on Route 134 in South Dennis. Authorities would later learn of the same male victim arriving at Cape Cod Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound shortly after the initial 9-1-1 call.
Police swiftly launched investigations at both the hospital and the area outside Buncey’s. A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit assisted at both locations to process evidence. During the overnight hours of Wednesday into Thursday, a sedan parked near Buncey’s was towed to Dennis Police Headquarters, according to police radio transmissions.
On Thursday, August 13, 2025, at approximately 5:15 p.m., a significant development occurred when a SWAT team, alongside Dennis and Harwich police officers (including detectives), conducted a traffic stop on Great Western Road. A suspect believed to be connected to the shooting was reportedly taken into custody and transported to Dennis Police Headquarters. Great Western Road was temporarily closed as officers secured the scene.
The investigation continued into the early evening, with Dennis Police detectives and a specialized K9 unit, including K9 Nemo and his handler, Barnstable County Sheriff Deputy Nick Fitzpatrick, searching for ballistic evidence along the woodline across from Buncey’s Pizza & Sports Cafe (see above HN photos). The search, which focused on detecting gunpowder and firearm related evidence, extended past sunset.
On August 15, 2025, the Dennis Police Department released the following statement:
“Upon arrival, Officers learned that a male party had been shot in the leg and he was being transported to Cape Cod Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Over the course of the investigation it was determined that the shooting was intentional and the male party was shot by a relative.
On August 14 at approximately 4:45 pm, Detectives from the Dennis Police Department took Anthony Alan Delman-Edwards, 37, into custody with the assistance of the Harwich Police Department and the Regional Cape & Islands SWAT team. Delman-Edwards was charged with A&B with Dangerous Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury, Discharge of a Firearm within 500 ft of a Building, Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, and Firearms Violation with Two Prior Violent/Drug crimes.”
