At approximately 11:26 p.m. on Tuesday, Barnstable Police responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash at 720 Pitchers Way. Upon arrival, officers discovered a pickup truck flipped onto its roof after crashing through a fence, downing a large tree limb, and colliding with vehicles parked outside Sea Meadow Village apartments. Witnesses described the impact as sounding “like a bomb exploding,” with one resident noting damage to his relatively new Ford Bronco. The driver, later identified as Jacob Carlson, 18, of Harwich, had fled the scene before police arrived, sources say. During the investigation, a Barnstable Police lieutenant spotted Carlson attempting to escape through a nearby backyard, where he was seen breaking apart a fence. Following a brief scuffle, Carlson was apprehended. Police noted a strong odor of alcohol emanating from Carlson. He was transported to Cape Cod Hospital in a Hyannis Fire Department ambulance for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. After receiving medical care, Carlson was taken to Barnstable Police Headquarters for booking. Carlson faces charges of Operating Under the Influence (Liquor), Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Crash with Property Damage, Vandalism to a fence, and additional motor vehicle offenses. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is brought to you by Led Zeppelin…  [CLICK IT/CRANK IT!
