I celebrate my half birthdays like I celebrate my full solar returns. I was debating all month on where I wanted to go for my half birthday. I was between a rock and a hard place. I have been too scared to fly (I know, I am working on it) but I wanted to go somewhere new. I was thinking of doing a staycation but I wanted to reserve that for a later time.   The moment I stopped stressing about it and just let things be, God gave me the biggest sign. I was having a conversation with a few transplants about Boston and New England as a whole. They mentioned that they have gone to The Cape multiple times and they look forward to the summer just to go there. I told them that I have never been but it has always been on my bucket list. They legit gasped at my response and said that I should go this summer no excuses. I love a challenge so I said, “okay bet!” I also explained to them that I plan to partake in a “New England” summer where I explore Boston and the neighboring states. We had a great conversation about traveling, local food spots, etc. When I was heading home, I saw flyer about transportation to Cape Cod. I rushed home and started doing my research. By the end of the night, I booked my trip to Cape Cod for my half birthday. I was ready to eat amazing seafood and catch a tan! As hectic as my schedule was, I was able to book a 1 night getaway to The Cape.   I left Boston early Sunday morning with just enough food to take with my medication. I was going there hungry. My only goal was to have a lobster roll. I haven’t had one in YEARS. My commute was seamless. I had my headphones to tune out the noise so I can peacefully read my book. Within a few hours I was in Cape Cod and when I arrived, it was like time stopped. I felt so at peace. I wasn’t expecting that but it was a great feeling.   I decided to walk to my hotel so I can really take in the scenery. About halfway I saw a CVS and decided to go in to get water and snacks. If you didn’t know CVS is a good spot to get souvenirs. Sometimes souvenir shops can be far out and/or too expensive.  I can’t tell you how many times CVS has come to the rescue when I was trying to buy souvenirs. This time was no different. I bought a handful of fridge magnets and was on my way to the hotel.   I was able to check-in early so I changed and made my way to grab lunch. There were so many food spots to choose from but I decided to have lunch at Spanky’s Clam Shack and Seaside Saloon. They had so many options but your girl went with the lobster roll! When I tell y’all I was in heaven? MAN LISTEN!! They were not stingy with the lobster. I had so many chunks of lobster meat all throughout the roll.  I almost tapped out but I locked in and took my time eating it all. I was ready for a nap but I decided to hit the beach so I can nap and sunbathe there.                 I spent a good 3 hours at Veterans Park Beach baking in the sun and splashing in the water. Veterans Park Beach is about a quick 10-minute walk from the harbor. It is very spacious. Everyone was spaced out which made the experience more enjoyable. Another perk about this beach are the benches right by the sand so you’re able to sit and relax without having to bring a beach chair. This is ideal if you are doing a day trip and don’t feel like lugging a beach chair around. I had a great time at the beach.   Sunbathing worked up an appetite and I decided to head back by the harbor for dinner. I originally went to Black Cat Tavern but they were extremely busy whereas their sister restaurant Black Cat Shack had no wait time for a party of 1. There was live music which is always a bonus. I was seated at a high-top table tucked away but I was able to people watch. This was another restaurant with so many good options that made it hard to pick. I started off with a pina colada which was very tasty then I got the crab cake sandwich. DELECTABLE!!!! After spending my evening eating and listening to live music, I went back to the hotel and called it a night. I sprawled my snacks out, cranked the AC on and turned on my show! There’s something about cable TV at a hotel that just makes the experience 1000x better. I ended up watching “Storage Wars” until I knocked out. I had a successful day!             The next morning, I wanted to switch it up and decided to check out a Brazilian bakery for breakfast.  Mayflour Bakery & Café was the place I went to and they did not disappoint! You are greeted the second you walk in. They have an array of sweet and savory pastries. You can’t help but leave with something. I ordered a ham, egg and cheese on grilled French bread and passionfruit juice. Everything was perfect!   I browsed Cape Cod Mall to check out the stores and then made my way back to the hotel to finish packing. My trip was already coming to an end so I had to make sure I had everything set for my commute back to Boston. I spent the rest of my morning and afternoon journaling and watching TV. It felt amazing to be able to step back from the hustle and bustle and reflect at The Cape. I never got a proper getaway after recovering from surgery. I went right back into work so this was much needed mentally and physically. If I could describe The Cape in one word it would be “Tranquil”. I can’t wait to return.                 I am at the halfway mark until my next birthday and I can honestly say I am SO proud of myself. So many plot twists have happened but I am managing to adapt and keep moving. Slow motion is better than no motion. Days I take big steps and other days I take baby steps and that’s okay. One of my major goals was to get my nail license before my half birthday and I accomplished that by March. I am very hopeful that will open multiple doors for me. There are so many goals that I have written out and I achieved most of those. I am learning to sit and celebrate myself more. I am living in my answered prayers and I am so blessed. This is only the beginning.   Celebrating my half birthday in a new area was the perfect touch. I cannot wait to return. Until next time!
