MASHPEE, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] –  Residents in the immediate area exited their homes after hearing the explosive crash that left everyone without power and in the dark. At around 11:00 p.m., Mashpee police and firefighters responded to the area of Route 130 and Cotuit Road after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a serious crash. A vehicle had snapped a utility pole before careening into a large tree. (Due to the height of the damage, some believe the vehicle may have gone airborne before slamming into the tree.) The mangled vehicle ended up covered with brush and debris, making it difficult for first responders to immediately locate the wreckage. According to radio transmissions, the driver somehow managed to self-extricate from the single-vehicle crash… and was reportedly walking around, confused and bleeding from the face as help began to arrive. There were uneasy moments of confusion as the driver reportedly indicated the possibility of a second occupant being ejected into the woods. And first responders immediately began searching for a second patient. According to radio transmissions, first responders were eventually able to determine the cellphone number of the other possible patient, and after calling her, learned she was not involved in the crash, but rather far, far away in the City of Brockton, safe and sound. There was no second patient. As you will hear in the following HN Video, firefighters were initially worried about onlookers being electrocuted, as there were reportedly concerned pedestrians walking around the downed wires on scene. Onlookers were advised of the hazards and told to move back for their own safety. The crash caused a widespread power outage, involving homes and traffic signals in the area. An Eversource truck quickly arrived and began assessing the damaged utility pole and power lines. The Mashpee Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash. The following HN video footage highlights the scene, with police and fire radio transmissions mixed in… [HN VIDEO – PRESS PLAY] P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is a brought to you by R.E.M…  [CLICK IT/CRANK IT!
