MARSTONS MILLS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] –  A pizza run turned into a nightmare last night when a brazen car thief sparked a high-speed chase that ended in a rollover crash on Route 6, sending an innocent couple to be checked out at Cape Cod Hospital for what were believed to be minor injuries. The drama unfolded at 3821 Falmouth Road, outside Domino’s Pizza, where a man stepped out to find his Toyota Scion stolen — his keys had been left in the vehicle, a mistake that would soon unleash chaos. Barnstable Police sprang into action, spotting the stolen vehicle near Route 28 and Pitcher’s Way in Hyannis at around 11:20 p.m. But the alleged thief wasn’t going down without a fight. Ignoring police attempts to have him pull over and stop, the reckless driver refused to cooperate, leading authorities on a heart-pounding pursuit back toward Marstons Mills, and eventually tearing onto Route 6 with Massachusetts State Troopers and Barnstable Police in hot pursuit. What followed was a wild two-vehicle crash into the wood line on Route 6 eastbound in Barnstable. An innocent couple was transported to Cape Cod Hospital to be checked out for minor injuries sustained after being struck by the fleeing stolen vehicle.  Their vehicle was said to have possibly rolled over, according to some radio transmissions.  HN asked the smartly dressed couple if they were okay… and they said they were… but appeared to still be dazed by the sudden crashed that happened suddenly, out of nowhere.  They both appeared dressed for a wedding or formal evening out… … an evening which ended, sadly, in utter chaos. After crashing, the alleged car thief fled on foot, (and for some reason he wasn’t wearing shoes) disappearing into the woods near the Hyannis Golf Course. A massive manhunt ensued, with a state police helicopter and local police drones buzzing overhead. K9 units — including a patrol dog from Yarmouth Police — began tracking through the darkness, with Barnstable Police squad cars and state police setting up a tight perimeter around the Hyannis Golf Course. Despite the all-out effort, the suspect somehow slipped through the cracks, vanishing into the shadows for the remainder of the overnight… … that is until golfers started hitting buckets of golf balls early this morning. As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, the shoeless suspect suddenly appeared on the golf course from out of nowhere early this morning. Concerned, golf club staff called police and described a suspicious individual wearing a dark hoodie without shoes. All area squad cars began rushing toward the Hyannis Golf Course fairways, quite certain they were onto something. This time their efforts paid off… and the suspect was taken into custody near hole 5 without further incident. The suspect was transported back to Barnstable Police Headquarters under arrest. The suspect is reportedly a juvenile. No further details available at this time. The Massachusetts State Police are investigating the highway crash that happened out on Route 6 the night before, while Barnstable Police patrol and detective divisions are handling the stolen vehicle investigation. HN will provide official updates as they become available… [HN VIDEO – PRESS PLAY] P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is a brought to you by Kool & The Gang…  [CLICK IT/CRANK IT! HEADPHONES ABSOLUTELY OBLIGATORY!]   * The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
