HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] –  As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, at around 10:30 p.m. last evening, police responded to an address on Winter Street after a resident heard a “sound outside her building” and located “an object” which she believed was fired from a gun. Barnstable PD patrol officers and a member of the Barnstable PD detective division began working the scene to the rear of 161 Winter Street. Two members of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit responded to take photographs and collect evidence related to ballistics and firearms. According to sources, investigators were able to find evidence of a gun being fired but were initially unable to locate the firearm. Because the case reportedly involved the firing of a gun, with no way of telling how much time had elapsed prior to a person touching the gun, a Barnstable Police K9 patrol officer determined it was best to call in a K9 unit with special training in the detection firearms and gunpowder. K9 Nemo and his handler, Barnstable County Sheriff Deputy Nick Fitzpatrick, arrived about 45 minutes later, having just traveled to the scene from an area off-Cape. It was worth the wait. Nemo and Deputy Fitzpatrick were able to quickly locate a handgun within a matter of minutes. The incident was still being actively investigated at the time of this report. As you will see in the following HN Video, officers were speaking with a man on scene who was later transported to Barnstable PD Headquarters for further questioning regarding the incident. The man was not under arrest. Members of the Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit were in the process of collecting evidence to be processed.
