Sun, March 16, 2:00PM- 3:00PM   This a local Indivisible event! More info here   Release Mahmoud Khalil NOW! Sunday, March 16th, 2025 Time: 2:00PM-3:00PM Location: Hyannis Airport Rotary 499 Barnstable road, Hyannis ma (Park at: staples ) Organized by: Cape Cod Women for Change/Mid Cape Indivisible and Upper Cape Indivisible Email capecodprotests@gmail.com if you have any questions.   Bring: signs, flags, drums(a pan and wooden spoon work well as a drum!), cowbells..   Join us at our peaceful protest demanding that the government release Mahmoud Khalil NOW!   Stand in solidarity to defend the first amendment right of free speech! Mahmoud Khalil was kidnapped from his NY home by federal agents for political speech. He is being held yet no charges have been brought against him. He was transferred to NJ and then Louisiana. In dictatorships, they call this “being disappeared.” This should matter to EVERYONE! You can disagree with his views or politics, but there is no evidence he has broken any law. The white house doesn’t claim he has done anything political. In America, political speech is protected, whether or not the President likes what you say. But today, that is in jeopardy. We cannot look the other way. Once it becomes normal for the regime to disappear people simply for protesting against the regime’s policies, …once a citizen or resident can be locked away with no charges against them, simply because they protested, there is no going back for America. This practice should cross the line for you. This is about supporting an American value, protecting free speech. Today is Mahmoud Kalil, tomorrow it’s me or you.   We need to be visible and make some noise!!!!! Please be safe. If anti-protesters come, keep your distance and do NOT engage.   “On Saturday, (March 8th) Trump’s immigration agents dragged Mahmoud Khalil, a palestinian, legal permanent resident of this country, whose wife is eight months pregnant, out of his Columbia University Apartment. As of Monday morning, he’s in ICE custody in Louisiana. Secretary of State Marco Rubio posted that they’re revoking Mahmoud’s green card. Let’s be clear: Mahmoud hasn’t been charged with any crime. He was kidnapped by the Trump administration because he participated in campus protests at Columbia against the genocide in Gaza. Palestinian students at Columbia are now reported to be terrified of coming to class and are locking themselves up in their dorms. This is a blatant assault on the First Amendment, a sign of advancing authoritarianism under Trump, and something that must be opposed by all of us.” (Zohran Mamdani)   Stay in the designated area. We are allowed to be on the grassy area by Nantucket Sound, which is owned by the town. (Park at Staples) We can walk the easements in front of businesses by the edge of the road to reach other locations (like the space in front of wendys). Dress comfortably.
