DENNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [DENNIS PD MEDIA STATEMENT / NO BOOKING PHOTO PROVIDED] – On Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at approximately 10:15 pm a Dennis Police Department vehicle was involved in a motor vehicle crash on Lower County Road near the intersection of Lighthouse Road in West Dennis. Initially the two Dennis Police officers reported that they were unable to exit the vehicle due to damage, but eventually were able to extricate themselves from the cruiser and check on the subject operating the second vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by the Dennis Fire Department Rescue to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The officer operating the department vehicle was later treated at Cape Cod Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and released. The crash investigation determined that the Dennis Police vehicle was traveling east on Lower County Road when the second vehicle, traveling west, drifted into the eastbound lane. The Dennis officer was able to steer away from the oncoming vehicle, avoiding a head on collision, but the cruiser was struck on the driver’s side, causing extensive damage. As a result of the investigation, Jefferson Valle-Chavez, age 20, of West Harwich is being charged with the following offenses: – Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Liquor – Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle – Failure to Stay Within Marked Lanes – Speeding Mr. Valle-Chavez will be summoned to the Orleans District Court at a later date.
