CAPE COD, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN NOTES] – For the past week while major news organizations have been focused on mysterious drone sightings over New Jersey and New York, HN has also been receiving reports, photos, and cellphone videos of large drones hovering over Nantucket Sound, just offshore and near to our south-facing Cape beaches. And so far, there has been no official word from our state and federal authorities regarding what these “drones” actually are, who’s flying them, and why. There are growing concerns about the reports of unusually large drones over New Jersey and New York in recent weeks. Some of these apparent drones are said to be as large as small automobiles, according to various online news reports. And they are being documented daily, up and down the Eastern Seaboard, as far north as Maine, according to various news sources. Are they benign?  Or are they a threat? According to a Fox News report, “White House national security communications adviser John Kirby claimed Thursday that many of the purported drone sightings spotted over New Jersey for the past several weeks are actually lawfully operated manned aircraft.” But other government officials are apparently not as comfortable with the “manned aircraft” explanation. And according to an Associated Press report early this morning – Saturday, December 14, 2024 – some officials are seeing things as being more urgent: This week seems to have begun a new, higher-profile chapter: Lawmakers are demanding (but so far not getting) explanations from federal and state authorities about what’s behind them. Gov. Phil Murphy wrote to President Joe Biden asking for answers. New Jersey’s new senator, Andy Kim, spent Thursday night on a drone hunt in rural northern New Jersey, and posted about it on X. More drone sightings have been reported in New York City, and Mayor Eric Adams says the city is investigating and collaborating with New Jersey and federal officials. And then President-elect Donald Trump posted that he believes the government knows more than it’s saying. “Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, shoot them down!!!” he posted on his social media site. So, what are these things? Will we ever get a clear explanation from government officials? And should we be concerned? Or should we accept the most recent White House explanation by John Kirby, that these numerous new “drone” sightings by concerned citizens are simply nothing more than “lawfully operated manned aircraft?” Imagine our government, like some archaic beat cop… well-fed, bloated, spinning his nightstick near an alarming crime scene, shouting, “keep moving, there’s nothin’ to see here folks!” Do we accept those orders blindly, keep moving, never looking back? Or do we continue to have our educated doubts and concerns, while inspecting the night skies? But wait, before we get too carried away… wouldn’t it be much easier to simply do what the silly-club-wielding hack says?  echoing, “Don’t believe our lying eyes! Don’t believe our lying eyes! Don’t believe our lying eyes and keep moving because our government is always believable and honest, and certainly not like the others.  In our current Government We Trust!”   The following HN Video contains recent footage of apparent large drones hovering over Centerville, Osterville, and South Yarmouth.
