HARWICH, MASSACHUSETTS –  At around 1:20 a.m. this morning – Saturday, December 7, 2024 – police and firefighters responded to Queen Anne Road, about an eighth of mile east of Main Street, for a report of a single vehicle crash. Upon arrival, first responders found a full-size pickup truck crashed into a utility pole. The snapped pole was leaning across the front of the truck and over the roadway. There were also wires across the roadway. The female driver managed to self-extricate and initially said she was not injured, according to radio transmissions. She was, however, eventually transported to Cape Cod Hospital and her condition was unknown at the time of this report. Queen Anne Road was completely closed down and was expected to remain so throughout Saturday morning as Eversource crews were expected to make repairs to two damaged utility poles. (Aside from the snapped pole, a second utility pole was also damaged, believed to be the one that had been struck first by the out-of-control pickup truck…) The Harwich Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash. IN OTHER NEWS: COPS: DISTRESSED MAN W/ FIREARM PEACEFULLY TAKEN INTO CUSTODY BOURNE, MASSACHUSETTS – At around 7:32 p.m. Friday evening, Bourne Police officers were dispatched to Old Plymouth Road, in the vicinity of Gibbs Road and Washburn Street, for a report of a man with a firearm inside a residence, suffering mental health distress. Bourne Police officers carefully and strategically surrounded the residence, watching all sides for signs of movement inside, according to radio transmissions. Across social media, the public was advised to stay inside and avoid the area. “If in the area of 0-50 Old Plymouth Rd, Gibbs Rd and Washburn, remain in your house at this time. If not in the area, avoid the area. Officers are involved in an active incident. We will update as we can,” the Bourne PD announced on their Facebook page. The Bourne PD media statement continues as follows: “… Family members, including a young child, were in the residence. Officers responded and, after a period of time, were able to escort the family members to safety. The male remained in the residence where he was reported to have the firearm. With the assistance of the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Special Weapons and Tactics Team, officers and negotiators attempted to communicate with the male. After approximately 2 hours, the 47-year-old male exited the residence and was peacefully taken into custody and later transported to an area hospital for evaluation. There were no injuries related to this incident. The Bourne Police Department would like to thank the dedicated and professional members of the Cape Cod Regional Special Weapons and Tactics Team, as well as the members of the Bourne Fire/Rescue and Emergency Services who assisted with this incident and were vital in it reaching its peaceful conclusion. We would also like to thank the members of the public for their patience during this incident.” IN OTHER NEWS:     HN photo notes: The Barnstable Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that happened on Enterprise Road near Chick-fil-A in Hyannis Friday evening. The call came in with there possibly being injuries, but according to Hyannis FD sources, three people were evaluated, with EMTs collecting three “refusals.” A member of the sheriff’s crime scene unit responded for photographs. According to radio transmissions, one of the vehicles was unregistered due to lack of insurance. BEYOND OUR BRIDGES:  ERO Boston removes international fugitive wanted for questioning in child rape case NORTHAMPTON, MASSACHUSETTS  –  [ICE MEDIA STATEMENT] — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston removed Adrian Patricio Huerta-Nivelo, a 25-year-old Ecuadoran national wanted for questioning following the rape of a minor, invasion of privacy and a violation of exit prohibition in his home country, on Dec. 3. “This fugitive was a person of interest in a particularly heinous criminal case in his home country,” said ERO Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde. “ERO Boston works closely with domestic and international partners, so when our officers discovered Huerta-Nivelo was unlawfully present in the United States and was wanted in Ecuador, they arrested him near his residence in Northampton. A Department of Justice immigration judge ordered him removed, and ERO Boston did so on Dec. 3.” U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested Huerta-Nivelo June 4, 2021, in San Luis, Arizona, when he unlawfully entered the U.S. He was issued a notice to appear before an immigration judge and released under an order of recognizance the same day. ERO Boston’s Foreign Fugitive Apprehension Unit arrested Huerta-Nivelo June 12 after confirming he was wanted in Ecuador. He remained in ERO custody during his immigration proceedings, and an immigration judge on Oct. 22 ordered him removed to Ecuador. ERO Boston carried out the judge’s order Dec. 3 and handed him over to Ecuadoran authorities. BEYOND OUR BRIDGES:  ERO Boston arrests Honduran national accused of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS – [ICE MEDIA STATEMENT] — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations arrested Salvador Castro Garcia, 46, after the Brockton District Court released him on bail Nov. 21. Castro, a Honduran national who also goes by the name Jose Luis Sanchez-Cruz, is accused of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and assault and battery. “Castro is accused of harming a child, which is unconscionable,” said ERO Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde. “He also unlawfully reentered the United States after being removed once before. Thanks to the Brockton District Court and the Plymouth County Correctional Facility’s cooperation with our immigration detainer, we took him into ICE custody without putting the public or our officers at risk. We — and the public — are always grateful when local law enforcement honors detainers so we can arrest potentially dangerous noncitizens in safe, controlled environments rather than on the streets of our communities.” U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrested Castro near Rio Grande City in Texas March 6, 2001. An immigration judge ordered him removed April 27 that year and he was subsequently removed to Honduras May 10. He then reentered the United States without inspection at an unknown location after that date. ERO Boston lodged the immigration detainer against Castro Nov. 20, a day before taking him into ICE custody, where he currently awaits immigration proceedings. BEYOND OUR BRIDGES: ERO Boston arrests previously removed Peruvian citizen convicted of burglary, charged with sexual assault HARTFORD, CONN. –  [ICE MEDIA STATEMENT] — Officers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston arrested Christian Maximo Castaneda Negrete, 46, on Dec. 3, after the Hartford Police Department released him on bond for pending sexual assault charges. “Castaneda, who’s unlawfully present in the United States, was convicted of three felonies in New Britain in 2004 and another felony in Bristol in 2011,” said ERO Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde. “ICE previously removed him to Peru, but he unlawfully returned to the United States. Castaneda has shown a flagrant disregard for the laws of the United States and for the wellbeing of others, and he’s now accused of second-degree sexual assault.” Castaneda’s prior convictions include violation of a protective order, first-degree burglary and unlawful restraint. The Connecticut Superior Court in New Britain sentenced him to concurrently serve five years in prison and three years of probation. The Connecticut Superior Court in Bristol convicted him of violating a restraining order in 2011. ERO Miami removed him to Peru in March 2012. At some point after his removal, he unlawfully reentered the United States. The Hartford Police Department arrested Castaneda for an alleged sexual assault Nov. 20. Before ERO Boston could lodge an immigration detainer against him, Hartford police released him on bond. ERO officers arrested him Dec. 3 on a public street in Hartford. He’s currently in ERO custody awaiting immigration proceedings. His sexual assault charge is pending. BEYOND OUR BRIDGES: ERO Manchester arrests Indonesian citizen accused of sexually assaulting New Hampshire child MANCHESTER, N.H. – [ICE MEDIA STATEMENT/NO BOOKING PHOTO PROVIDED] — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations Manchester arrested Mikhail Sebastian, an Indonesian national who’s been accused of sexually assaulting a New Hampshire child, Nov. 29. “Mikhail Sebastian is accused of sexually abusing a child,” said ERO Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde, who also oversees ERO operations in New Hampshire. “ERO officers lodged an immigration detainer against him while he was in the Rockingham County Jail, and our colleagues there honored it so our officers could take him into custody in a safe, controlled setting.” New Hampshire’s Portsmouth Police Department notified ICE that it had arrested Sebastian for attempted felonious sexual assault on a minor. After confirming Sebastian was unlawfully present in the United States, ERO Boston lodged the detainer against him with the Rockingham County Jail. After arresting Sebastian, ERO Boston served him with a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge. Sebastian is in ERO custody awaiting immigration proceedings. His criminal charges are still pending. BEYOND OUR BRIDGES: ERO Boston removes Honduran national with 6 prior removals convicted of DUI, disorderly conduct, drug trafficking BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS – [ICE MEDIA STATEMENT] — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston removed Julio Cesar Hernandez Funez, 41, to Honduras Nov. 18. Hernandez, who’s also known as Rodas and Flores Najera, unlawfully entered the United States multiple times. Authorities removed him to Honduras in 2006, 2013, 2014 and twice in 2015, once in 2016, and once this year. “Hernandez is a repeat offender who’s unlawfully entered the United States at least seven times, and he’s committed crimes against innocent people nearly every time,” said ERO Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde. “He’s been arrested in multiple states — including in Texas in 2001 — where Border Patrol agents found him hiding in the trunk of a car at a checkpoint. He unlawfully entered the United States through Canada in February of this year, and our U.S. Customs and Border Protection partners arrested him in Derby Line, Vermont. ERO Boston removed him last week.” Hernandez has been convicted of five felonies in the United States: Disorderly conduct in 2004, assault and battery and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in 2005, entry without inspection in 2012 and driving while intoxicated in 2014. In 2022, Honduran officials convicted him of illicit trafficking of drugs and sentenced him to serve four years and six months in prison. Hernandez fled the country prior to serving his sentence and attempted to enter the United States through the northern border in Vermont. ERO is one of ICE’s three operational directorates and the principal federal law enforcement authority in charge of domestic immigration enforcement. ERO’s mission is to protect the homeland through the arrest and removal of those who undermine the safety of U.S. communities and the integrity of U.S. immigration laws, and its primary areas of focus are interior enforcement operations, management of the agency’s detained and non-detained populations, and repatriation of noncitizens who have received final orders of removal. ERO’s workforce consists of more than 7,700 law enforcement and non-law enforcement support personnel across 25 domestic field offices and 208 locations nationwide, 30 overseas postings, and multiple temporary duty travel assignments along the border. Members of the public can report crimes and suspicious activity by dialing 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or completing the online tip form. FBI B.O.L.O.     AND SINCE WE’RE ON THE SUBJECT OF DANGEROUS “ILLEGAL ALIENS…” DRONES – FLYING SAUCERS – AND OTHER WEIRD UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECTS IN THE NEWS   HN NOTES: I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what the “eff” these things are! Do you? *** ALERT *** HN received the following email from a concerned reader: Hi Rob. Earlier this evening I witnessed two UAPs/drones over Parker River Beach. They were so bright in the sky, right as sunset was ending, that I pulled over and watched them for over ten minutes. (I live and have driven past this beach my whole life, and have never seen this in the skies.) They seem to purport with what folks have been witnessing over New Jersey and the UK in the last few weeks and days. They hovered for up to ten minutes. Unmoving. They were in an area of sky that air traffic doesn’t pass through, and according to my friend who is a pilot no aircraft were in that area at the time. Yet, here they are, attached below. After about ten minutes one moved away very steadily and suddenly initiated the green and red FAA lights, mimicking a plane. What was odd was that it was shining a bright white steady light, and only initiated these red and green lights well after its sudden turn from its steady course. It was completely unplanelike, and very unusual for two planes to fly so close like that. Also, it appeared to be ascending rather than descending towards Hyannis. Perhaps exotic Otis craft. I don’t know. I don’t know any planes that can hover and then decide to peel off. Stay tuned! Or run for your lives! (Hell if I know what lurks out there in our inky black skies!  I’m just a local photographer, for chrissakes!  But I’ll let you know if I learn anything…)  [But hey, thanks for the interesting email, man!  Keep ’em coming!] P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is a brought to you by The B-52s…  [CLICK IT/CRANK IT! HEADPHONES ABSOLUTELY OBLIGATORY!]
