YARMOUTH PORT, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – It was dark and rainy Saturday morning – shortly after midnight – when a mother on Harpoon Lane called police reporting that her neighbor just broke in her front door leaving broken glass everywhere before fleeing the scene. A number of Yarmouth Police squad cars responded. A Sergeant had dispatch advise the mom and her son to “shelter in place…” “lock a door…” The suspect was described as being in his early 20s…
Meanwhile, as you will hear in the following HN Video, dispatch was able to dig up the description of a likely getaway vehicle associated with the suspect, a 2005 white Dodge pickup truck. Moments later, a Yarmouth Police patrolman discovered the suspect vehicle crashed onto the wooded shoulder of Route 6A, heading away from the initial scene, a few stone throws away.
The vehicle was unoccupied. The driver had apparently fled.
A Yarmouth Police K9 unit responded and, as you will hear, had a strong track going, with the driver seemingly traveling east, away from the crash and the scene on Harpoon Lane. The track then turned back in a westerly direction, apparently heading back toward the initial scene on Harpoon Lane… where officers were stationed for such an eventuality.
But, although the track ended back on Harpoon Lane, officers were not able to make contact with the suspect… just yet.
And back at the crash scene, a patrolman requested an accident number, along with an arrest number…
It had been a dark and rainy Saturday morning, with a lot of police activity and expended effort by all. An abandoned 2005 Dodge pickup truck was towed from a Route 6A crash scene, with a missing driver remaining “in the breeze.”
According to a police source Sunday morning, the entire thing is still under investigation. And HN will provide official updated details as they become available.
“Shelter in place…” and “lock a door…” is never bad advice on any dark and rainy evening, no matter who or where you are.
