HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS –  A juvenile male was out walking his dog shortly after dark when a strange man reportedly approached and suddenly punched him in the face early last evening. The reported assault happened in the vicinity of Chase Street (near the intersection with Harvard Street), somewhere around 4:45 to 5:15 p.m. HN was on scene when the teenage male was walking with a Barnstable Police patrolman back toward the scene of the attack. Fortunately, the teen was not injured, as the punch reportedly did not make solid contact while glancing off his face. The attack was reportedly unprovoked, happening suddenly and without warning. Once throwing the punch, the man reportedly ran away when the teen began crying out for help. Neighbors reportedly turned on their outside lights but by then the suspect was already out of sight. The suspect was described as a thin white male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a bushy beard. The beard had some white in it. The suspect was also described as possibly being homeless… or otherwise disheveled in appearance. HN was on scene when a man wearing dark clothing was seen walking around a corner, a short distance away, along with a woman… but upon running closer toward the corner to get better look, the teen was able to quickly determine it was not the suspect in question. The juvenile’s mother was also on scene when the officer was retracing her son’s footsteps. The attack is being actively investigated by the Barnstable Police Department. Anyone with surveillance footage of the possible lone suspect described above in the vicinity of Chase Street or any of the nearby surrounding streets, from around 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m… or even later. Please reach out to the Barnstable Police Department on their business line, 508-775-0387… and refer to the offense #24-2026-OF . This reported random attack on a juvenile comes just days after last Thursday’s random attack on a girl out shopping with her mother at the Dollar Tree store across town, inside the Festival Plaza.
