HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN NOTES] – It was less than a week ago – Wednesday, October 30, 2024 – when a Hyannis woman named April was struck by a full-size pickup truck on West Main Street. April suffered serious multi-trauma, including a head injury. She was “unresponsive.” A Medflight helicopter was immediately requested to Cape Cod Gateway Airport in Hyannis. While waiting for the helicopter, April’s ambulance needed to be rerouted to Cape Cod Hospital when Medflight suddenly canceled “due to weather.” April was in very rough shape and, fearing the gravest extreme, police accident reconstruction experts closed down West Main Street for an extensive investigation.

This past Saturday, HN spoke with Sherry, a friend of April, who once worked with her at Hart Farm Nursery and Garden Center in Dennis Port. Sherry reported that April had suffered a concussion and had undergone at least one surgery for a severe leg injury. The surgery involved a metal rod.
HN was relieved to hear that April was still with us and rallying. Sherry had many positive things to say about April’s character as a friend and caretaker for her family. April lives with and cares for her mom in the West Main Street area of Hyannis.
A fundraiser for April has been set up to help her pay bills as she recovers from a number of injuries described as “very severe.”
Vicki, April’s sister wrote the following on the GoFundMe page:
“As some of you must know my sister April was in a really bad accident yesterday while walking a crosswalk. I am starting a gofund me page for my mother and sister so they can keep the house and pay the bills. My sister helped my mom keep the house bills paid. So they both will need it. Any amount helps. We all appreciate everything. She has a long recovery but [is] alive and that is all we can be thankful for. Funds will be used for bills medical and household.”
HN had intended to write this update about April last evening but then a massive fire suddenly broke out at an old inn in Yarmouth Port…
But this evening, HN had time to visit the Hart Farm Nursery and Garden Center’s Facebook page and was elated to find the above recent photo of April smiling with loved ones from her hospital bed, along with a heartwarming message which reads:
“We have WONDERFUL news! As you’ll recall, April was hit by a truck last week and taken to Boston. Her injuries were very severe, but she is a FIGHTER! She is doing much better, and recovering from surgery. April has a long road ahead of her to recover, but she is thankful for all of your words of encouragement, donations, and most of all: your prayer.”
This is truly heartwarming news! Dear HN Readers, please keep April, her friends and family in your prayers. And please CLICK HERE to contribute to April’s fundraiser!
Thank you.
