MARSTONS MILLS, MASSACHUSETTS – A number of parents and elementary school students stood out in protest by the entrance to the Barnstable United Elementary today because their school is making them sick, according to them. As you will see in the following HN Video, today is the beginning of an ongoing protest where several parents (along with several students) went on record, expressing their concern about kids and staff being put in harm’s way. As you will see and hear, they strongly believe and report that both students and school staff are at high risk of illness because of an ongoing hazardous mold issue inside Barnstable United Elementary. Courtney daLomba’s son attends Barnstable United Elementary and says the school was already recently shut down in July for dangerous mold. In an email to HN, daLomba said that Sara Ahern, Barnstable Superintendent of Schools, “is putting our kids and staff at HIGH risk due to the mold concern…” and that Ahern is “refusing to continue to test the school even after countless teachers and parents are complaining.” Multiple teachers and students have been sickened by the mold problem, according to daLomba. The concerned parents and elementary students in the following HN Video demand action… and they say they are going to do whatever it takes to make their school a healthy place conducive to learning, once and for all.
