EASTHAM, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – As you will see in the following HN Video, a single vehicle (now completely unrecognizable) suddenly left the roadway, struck a tree and rolled over into a utility pole before bursting into flames last evening. At around 9:40 p.m., police and firefighters began responding to 2020 Nauset Road after receiving reports of injuries, according to emergency radio transmissions. The crash brought down live power lines. Two occupants managed to self-extricated prior to the vehicle becoming fully engulfed. They were transported to Cape Cod Hospital in an Eastham FD ambulance, along with a Wellfleet FD ambulance which had been called in for mutual aid. At least one of the patients was described as being in priority two condition and CCH was placed on trauma alert.  There is no further information about the extent of the patient’s injuries at the time of this report.  Firefighters managed to knock down the flames and control hot spots… while also waiting for Eversource to arrive and secure the live lines and check the integrity of the damaged pole that had caught on fire at one point. The Eastham Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash. (There is a report that one person may have been detained at the crash scene… and the investigation was still ongoing at the hospital at the time of this report…) HN will provide official updates as they become available.
