[HN snapshot notes and mullings…]     The above HN snapshots from earlier in the week show a Hyannis neighborhood scene where two fully-grown men had reportedly been engaged in some sort of combat with one another, for some odd reason.  (A stick had allegedly been in play at one point…) Both older men were scraped up a little. Both men were checked out by Hyannis Rescue and refused further care. Both men were photographed by a Barnstable County Sheriff crime scene photographer. Both men told their side of the story to Barnstable Police officers. At least one witness also spoke with officers. And both men decided not to pursue the matter further. Peace was restored. No arrests were made. A school bus full of kids drove by to witness full-grown, bruised-up old men standing around in their natural habitat, nursing their wounds. It was an educational moment, in a twisted Hyannis version of “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” sort of way.       The above HN snapshots show the old Cascade Motor Lodge main building now reduced to a pile of splintered construction debris. All of the buildings on the property are in the process of being torn down. And there’s talk of new apartments eventually being built in their place… but this being the Town of Barnstable with its numerous, seemingly well-meaning boards, committees and tribunals, HN cannot, in good conscience, advise anyone to hold their breath. (Is that a plover nest I see? Over by the old pool?  If it is, we’re going to need to tape off the area and close everything down… progress be damned!)   In the above HN snapshot, police responded to a report of a shirtless man fighting with a woman behind Ocean State Job Lot. The two were separated. Nobody was hurt. No arrests were made. Peace was restored. At a glance, it vaguely reminded me of an unpublished scene from a Tennessee Williams play, “Stella and Stanley Kowalski visit Hytown…” (… with Blanche DuBois expected to arrive by Uber at any moment.)   And finally, the above HN snapshot simply shows Yarmouth Police officers at the scene of a reported fight outside of a West Yarmouth bar early this morning. One “victim” remained on scene, while the other combatants had already fled. Peace was restored.  And once again there were renewed hopes of joy and jubilation throughout the land.   Join in by clicking your heals together and repeating after me, “Joy and jubilation!  Joy and jubilation!  Sweet joy and jubilation!”  (That oughta magically take care of everything! By golly!  Joy, jubilation, and brightly painted plywood blocks…)   P.S.  –  Meanwhile, in the above HN snapshot, the recent view on Winter Street… P.P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is brought to you by Clint Holmes…  [CLICK IT/CRANK IT! HEADPHONES ABSOLUTELY OBLIGATORY!]
