HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN PHOTO/VIDEO NOTES] – As you will see and hear in the following HN “video,” at around 4:00 p.m. today – Monday, 8/19/24 – Barnstable Police squad cars raced to an address on Tevyaw Road for a woman reporting that someone had just entered her brother’s room and was trying to stab him. Police arrived and found a 58-year-old man with bloody wounds to his left hand. The suspect, an adult female, was taken into custody nearby.
The alleged victim had his hand already heavily bandaged when HN arrived on scene about 20 minutes after the initial call. The following is from a BPD media statement about the alleged attack:
… Upon arrival, officers observed a chaotic scene with several individuals present, including a male victim who was bleeding from his hand.
The suspect, identified as Lori Zamora, attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle but was quickly detained by responding officers. According to witness statements and evidence gathered at the scene, Zamora allegedly forced her way into the residence, threatened multiple individuals with a knife, and assaulted one of the occupants. Additionally, Zamora is accused of attempting to set fire to the residence by pouring gasoline on the exterior and threatening to ignite it.
Lori Zamora has been arrested and charged with the following offenses:
• Home Invasion
• Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (three counts)
• Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon
• Attempted Arson of a Dwelling House
Following her arrest, Zamora was processed at the Barnstable Police Department and later released on her recognizance by the Bail Commissioner.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further details are available at this time.
According to a police source, Lori Zamora is 30 years old and from Marstons Mills. Police are still investigating, but at some point, there was allegedly an argument over the phone about “work promised” to the suspect.
HN NOTE: According to a source, in regard to Zamora already being released on personal recognizance despite the serious violent charges, “new bail conditions” have taken effect in recent weeks. The changes reportedly include suspects no longer being required to pay the $40 fee. Instead, the state now reportedly pays the bail commissioners $80 via direct deposit.
This wasn’t the first time Zamora had been arrested on violent charges this summer…
Above HN photo notes: In early July, a number of squad cars responded to an area behind a convenience store on Ocean Street for a report of a female assaulting a couple of individuals, according to radio transmissions. When HN arrived on scene, Hyannis FD EMTs were bandaging a senior’s hand while he was seated on his walker. An angry, heavyset woman began screaming and physically resisting officers as they tried to take her into custody. She appeared to be screaming at a relative on scene. Officers then had a difficult time getting her to safely enter the backseat of one of their cruisers. She wasn’t cooperating and her volatile behavior was escalating… when one officer mentioned that she was about to get pepper sprayed. Officers were able to eventually secure the woman in the backseat without the use of pepper spray. And once the woman was in custody, there was a sudden burst of loud applause from a group of senior citizens standing across the street. Apparently, they had all just witnessed the entire commotion…
… and so it goes.
