TOP HN PHOTO: A woman is facing at least one criminal motor vehicle charge after Dennis Police officers responded to a single vehicle crash early this morning – Monday, 8/12/2024. The crash happened on Sea Street in Dennis Port shortly before 4:00 a.m. Dennis FD firefighters were also on hand, working the scene. The woman was believed to be the sole occupant and driver of the vehicle. She was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation of injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
MAN ACCUSED OFF LEAVING CRASH, PASSING OUT IN MIDDLE OF RTE. 132
As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, at around 1:00 a.m. this morning, Barnstable Police responded to Rte. 132, at the on-ramp to Rte. 6 eastbound, for a report of a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road, with the driver reportedly passed out behind the wheel. When the first officers arrived on scene, they were able to easily awaken the driver. A West Barnstable FD ambulance was called to the scene. The driver was evaluated but was not transported. Officers found the driver to be sober at the time of the call. According to radio transmissions, the driver had a previous charge of OUI and Negligent Operation on his adult record. In the commuter lot, a short distance away behind Burger King, officers located two vehicles that a witness reportedly says was struck by the vehicle police were investigating on Rte. 132. According to police sources, the driver is being charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash.

A state trooper took a young man into custody after he appeared to struggle with field sobriety testing. The traffic stop happened on Bearses Way near the entrance to U-Haul, sometime around 1:00 a.m. this morning.
A Good Samaritan stopped to help an elderly man who fell off an electric scooter and landed on the North Street parking lot pavement shortly after midnight, this morning. The Good Samaritan took the time to call rescue and stay by the injured man while waiting for help.
A blue Subaru Crosstrek was reportedly stolen from an address on Ocean Street in South Yarmouth during the overnight. The keys were reportedly left inside the vehicle prior to it being stolen. The Subaru had a Massachusetts license plate reading 1GB C32 at the time of the theft. The Yarmouth Police Department is investigating, and regional police are on the lookout…
Barnstable Police are investigating a truck vs. motorcycle crash that happened on Rte. 149, near the intersection with Osterville/West Barnstable Road shortly before 7:30 a.m. this morning. The motorcyclist was badly injured (suffering multi-system trauma) and transported to an off-Cape trauma center. The Barnstable Police are investigating. No further details at this time…
Barnstable Police patrol officers rushed to a report of people “fighting in the street,” on Locust Street early this morning, around 6:00 a.m. Most of the combatants had already fled the area prior to police arriving. There were no reports of serious injuries. The BPD is investigating…
* Aside from the above, it was a relatively quiet Monday morning on our elongated, boomerang-shaped sand dune. It felt cooler and dryer than recent overnights. And it was especially good napping weather… but alas, not everyone (including reckless drivers) got the memo about “dialing it back” and taking her easy for a change.
