Last week we had the pleasure of vending at the Bayberry Quilt Show on Cape Cod. It was a lovely show in a great place. Katy was on sight to handle the action and sent me photos of her favorite quilts from the show.       These three quilts were very summery in all their floral glory. From L-R: The Rose Fairy, Vase of Flowers, and Fluffy in the Rose Garden – all by Cindy Ehrenreich. All three of these collage quilts featured applique and captured amazing realism with the flowers.   This quilt is Warm Pink Sunset by Gail Butler. Traditionally pieced, she says, “Looking at this quilt is a warm version of winter.” I found the colors and imagery very striking.     Tere D’Amato made this quilt, A Trusted Friend and says that her “trust Featherweight doesn’t get the recognition it deserves.” This pieced quilt is charming scene and she did a great job.       These two quilts are pretty cool. I see them as being similar in their non-traditional design and neutral color palette, yet so different in the first being very structured and the second offering so much movement. Both are spectacular. Holly Santangelo made the first, The Wright Stuff and noted that the quilt was, “Inspired by a Frank Lloyd Wright stained glass door at the Dana Thomas House in Springfield, IL.” This is proof that quilting inspiration is truly all around us. The second, Nor’easter on Swan Pond, was made by Nancy McConnell. She used Karen Eckmeier’s (a local friend!) Layered Waves Technique and says it, “represents the wind, waves and eddies we see on Swan Pond during storms.” Wow.       The guild challenge was to create a quilt representing the view that you might see from a boat or other vessel. It is a clever challenge and produced super interesting work. I’d be happy to look out the window of a boat and see these gorgeous creatures. It was interesting that when the challenge said, “vessel of any kind” everyone went to water – makes sense on Cape Cod. This same challenge would be interesting looking out the window of a plane. I loved the idea and the makers’ creativity.       And then for our favorite – and not because it is a Kaffe quilt! Kaffe’s Chain by Tere D’Amato is a fabulous study in pattern and color. She wrote, “I saw this adaptation of an old block called Jack’s Chain and challenged myself to draft my own pattern.” What a fantastic job!   We enjoyed the show and meeting so many wonderful quilters. There is clearly a lot of talent on the Cape! Thanks Katy for handling the show and taking these great photos!
