Burke, Jr., Barnstable Police Chief Jean Challies, State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine, and Cape & Islands District Att9orney Robert J. Galibois. At 5:23 am [Wednesday] morning, the Barnstable Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a fire at 326 Oakland Rd. and dispatched the Hyannis Fire and Barnstable Police Departments. While responding, they were advised of people trapped. On arrival, firefighters found the single-family home substantially involved in fire with two occupants outside the residence reporting that another was still inside. A second alarm was requested, bringing mutual aid from the fire departments of Yarmouth, Dennis, Barnstable, West Barnstable, Cotuit, and Centerville-Osterville-Marston Mills to assist. The bulk of the heavy fire was knocked down in about 15 minutes. Two adult occupants were transported to Cape Cod Hospital. Sadly, one adult male was located deceased in the home. The exact cause of his death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation by the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Barnstable Police Department, and the Hyannis Fire Department. They are supported by the Department of Fire Services’ Code Compliance & Enforcement Unit. ###
