CAPE COD, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – It was another wild overnight across the Mid-Cape last evening. There were the usual loud parties and drunks, along with a few motor vehicle crashes sprinkled in for good measure. And according to radio transmissions, the crash injuries last evening did not sound life-threatening, so HN was able to dedicate this morning’s report to two separate stolen motor vehicle crashes.
As you’ll see in the following HN Video, around 10:00 p.m. last evening (Saturday), Barnstable Police attempted to pull over a white Ford Fusion that was driving around downtown Hyannis without a rear registration plate. A Barnstable patrolman first attempted the traffic stop near the intersection of Sea Street and Main Street. Moments later, he announced the vehicle wasn’t stopping and he was now engaged in a pursuit. During the pursuit, the officer radioed that it was a recently reported stolen vehicle. Speeds reached around 60 MPH, according to radio traffic. The pursuit made its way to Route 28 westbound at varying speeds before the patrolman announced the suspect(s) were ditching the vehicle. The suspect(s) drove into a wooded area and fled on foot. Officers were unable to get a good description because “they went into the woods through the driver’s side,” according to radio transmissions. Approaching officers would have had a difficult time seeing the suspect(s) because the driver’s side was up an embankment, facing away from the roadway. NOTE: There has not yet been any official word on the number of “suspect(s)” involved… and the investigation is active and ongoing.
A K-9 unit quickly arrived where the vehicle ditched. “Romko,” a 15-month Belgian Shepherd, just recently completed the 16-week patrol dog school along with veteran Barnstable Police Officer Dan Ruth. Both Ptl. Ruth and the rookie pup hit the ground tracking toward the west, but the suspect(s) were able to get away, possibly picked up by another vehicle. The investigation is ongoing…

Also included in the following HN Video, just two hours after the stolen vehicle chase in Hyannis, Falmouth Police came across a crashed stolen vehicle in their town. The crash happened near the intersection of Fresh Pond Road and Barrows Road in East Falmouth, around 12:30 a.m. this morning. K-9 units responded to search for the occupant(s). The vehicle was reported stolen out of Mashpee, according to radio transmissions. The following HN Video also contains Falmouth Police and Barnstable County Sheriffs radio transmissions related to the second crashed stolen motor vehicle on Cape Cod last evening…
