C-O-MM UPDATE – C-O-MM FIRE DISTRICT RESPONDED TO PERSON IN THE WATER WITH A MEDICAL EMERGENCY: June 6, 2024 (Centerville, MA) – Today at approximately 1332 hours, a 911 call was jointly received by the Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department (C-O-MM) and Barnstable Police Department Dispatchers. The frantic 9-1-1 caller reported a man in the Centerville River having a medical emergency. At the time of the call, it was unknown if the patient was breathing or conscious. C-O-MM Fire Department crews along with Barnstable Police were immediately dispatched and an additional C-O-MM unit was dispatched to nearby Hayward Rd ramp to launch a rescue boat. The first arriving unit encountered an unconscious man being desperately held to the side of a kayak approximately 20′ off shore. The C-O-MM crews immediately donned life jackets and dove into the water bringing the elderly male to a nearby dock and began life saving medical treatments. The patient was quickly transported to Cape Cod Hospital for further medical care. Crews performed admirably under unique circumstances and worked in a cohesive manner along with Barnstable Police Officers to ensure the best possible outcome for the patient. No injuries were sustained by any first responders. The patient’s condition is unknown at this time. INITIAL HN REPORT & “VIDEO” CENTERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS –  Two C.O.M.M. Firefighters dove into the Centerville River in an attempt to save a man discovered by at least one person in the area. At around 1:30 p.m., CENTERVILLE-OSTERVILLE-MARSTONS MILLS Firefighters and Barnstable Police patrol officers rushed to the area to the rear of 707 South Main Street where the man was reportedly found in the water. Firefighters where able to pull the man onto a raft at the end of a dock, where they began CPR. First responders were still attempting CPR when the adult male patient was placed into an ambulance.
