UPDATE – COMM FD MEDIA STATEMENT: “Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle crash with injury at the intersection of Route 28 and Lumbert Mill Road.  The vehicle was reported to be on fire.  Units arrived to find an SUV crashed into a tree resulting in heavy front-end damage to the vehicle and a fire in the engine compartment.  Bystanders assisted the driver from the vehicle prior to our arrival.  The driver of the vehicle was evaluated and transported by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital.  The vehicle fire was extinguished by Fire Department personnel.  Barnstable Police and Barnstable County Sheriffs assisted on location.” INITIAL HN VIDEO & REPORT: CENTERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS –  [HN VIDEO NOTES]  –  An SUV struck a tree and burst into flames shortly before 3:40 a.m. this morning.  The crash happened at the intersection of Route 28 and Lumbert Mill Road.  The first officers and firefighters on scene immediately focused on helping the injured male patient who had been operating the vehicle.  There were no other occupants inside the vehicle.  The patient was banged up and his condition is unknown at the time of this report.  Police did not need to call in accident reconstruction experts.  It appears a couple of passersby also stopped to help the patient.  The patient was transported to Cape Cod Hospital. There were a couple of loud explosions as Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills firefighters extinguished the flames.  The Barnstable Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.  A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit assisted with photos.  The following HN Video includes police radio transmissions and footage of the fiery crash scene… [No further details available at the time of this report…] [HN VIDEO –  PRESS PLAY]
