HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN NOTES & MULLINGS ON THE MATTER] –  An almighty force played its lunar poker chip across the face of our sun today. Millions watched. Things darkened. It felt weird and a little cooler for about ten minutes or so. The light returned. I ordered a pizza. The gods seemed happy. The ground didn’t quake. Nothing erupted. It was a good day. A rare day for sure… … but then something even more extraordinary happened at the intersection of Winter and North Street sometime around dusk, when two drivers remained on scene and were actually caring toward one another after almighty forces slammed both their vehicles into one another. It was a pickup truck versus an SUV… and the violent impact had caused airbags to deploy. But both drivers remained on scene! (Which is seemingly becoming more and more of a rarity these days…) It was probably the most civilized crash scene I’ve been to in a very long time. These weren’t barbarians. These were human beings helping one another. The cops were extra cooperative with one another, taking the initiative to ask the first officer on scene if he needed extra help with traffic. And the firefighters were naturally being their kind selves as always. Four occupants were evaluated but non needed to be transported. One woman gingerly stepped out of the ambulance, saw the other driver and with a look of sincerity asked if she was okay. These weren’t barbarians… … it was a rare day indeed.   HN PHOTO NOTES: In a separate single vehicle crash from earlier in day on Route 149 in West Barnstable, the driver fortunately escaped serious injury despite heavy damage to the vehicle…       P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is brought to you by Depeche Mode…  [CLICK IT/CRANK IT! HEADPHONES ABSOLUTELY OBLIGATORY!]
