Local police dog, detective do their bit…

WEST YARMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN NOTES & MULLINGS ON THE MATTER] –  It’s no secret I like good dogs, good cops, good capers, good books, and three relatively affordable, good brands of beer:  Heineken, Modelo, and “free.” It doesn’t take much to make me happy… … and the following will hopefully make you happy as well. The Yarmouth Police recently posted the following “good caper” on their Facebook page, and I’m sorry I missed it because I love these K9-involved stories! But unfortunately, it has been a week of tragedy and violence dominating a fast and furious news cycle… … so, I missed it.   Mia culpa. The following involves a detective and narcotics detection dog “doing their bit.” I only wish I had learned about it earlier for I would have loved to have dug up the police report and additional details. Any caper that makes a dent, big or small, in the distribution of deadly Fentanyl (along with other deadly drugs), is a caper that needs to be celebrated and written about to its fullest extent. Not because it was a knockout blow against the foreign drug cartels flooding our children’s bloodstreams with massive quantities of poison, seemingly with impunity… it wasn’t… … but it was a good drug seizure, nonetheless. In my opinion, every single spec of Fentanyl taken out of play, along with the lowlifes that peddle it, makes a difference and possibly saves lives… and at the very least sends a message that we love our children and most vulnerable so much, that members of our community are willing to put their lives on the line to stop what basically amounts to ongoing mass murder for profit. Here are the story basics: A detective and his pup “did their bit” last Monday when Yarmouth Police Officers responded to a West Yarmouth neighborhood after being tipped off about drug activity. Upon arrival, officers observed a car backed into a dead-end road with two people inside. The passenger exited and ran into a nearby house while the car suddenly took off toward Hyannis. Detectives and members of a “Pro-Active Anti-Crime Unit” located the car traveling on Yarmouth Road in Hyannis, where they were able to successfully stop it for traffic violations. During the investigation, Detective Ambrosini deployed Gauge, his narcotics detection dog, who reportedly alerted officers to the odor of drugs. Officers reportedly then located 24 grams of Fentanyl and 37 grams of crack cocaine on the driver who was subsequently arrested. Joshua Taylor, 33, of Brockton was charged with Trafficking Fentanyl, Trafficking Cocaine and Failure to Stop for Police. Officers also learned he had an active warrant for his arrest on a separate matter. But that’s not all. According to Yarmouth Police, Taylor, who has a history of drug distribution, was also wearing a GPS monitoring bracelet at the time of his arrest. (Details on the case that led up to the GPS bracelet were unknown at the time of this report…) Taylor was booked and held overnight at YPD Headquarters without bail, and he was expected to be arraigned in Barnstable District Court this past Tuesday morning. * HN NOTE:  All of the above details are allegations released by the Yarmouth Police.  Defendants are presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. Other than that, it was an otherwise relatively quiet overnight. (Thank God!) Time for a book and a beer!
