HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN PHOTO NOTES] –  It’s not a new or uncommon issue at Hyannis beaches, young beach goers being harassed by sexual predators. For decades, young males (and females too) have not been able to simply walk or drive alone into the Ocean Street beaches without experiencing an unwanted encounter with some older, creepy dude sexually harassing them or following them around. In the old days (and perhaps they still do), these creepers would typically park on the north side of the Kalmus Beach lot all by themselves, staking out their prey. Young teens driving into the parking lot alone are the targets of their perverted advances. It’s annoying as hell, at the very least… In the 1970s, men approaching unsuspecting beach goers looking for random, uninvited sex was a major downside to visiting Kalmus Beach in particular. But in these modern times, when men seeking homosexual encounters is no longer as “taboo” as it once was, one would think most male sexual predators would not be as likely to frequent highway rest areas and isolated beach parking lots, etc… … but maybe not. Today, at around 1:30 p.m., a younger looking teenage male, who had just recently turned 18-years-old, called police from the Veteran’s Beach parking lot reporting that a strange man in a blue Subaru had been bugging him with “inappropriate questions.” The 18-year-old told HN he was approached twice by the elderly man he described as being a “creep.”  He played a video for HN, where the elderly man can be heard trying to convince the teen to perform oral sex on him, and not in a “nice” way – the words he used are too vulgar to share here. It understandably freaked the kid out. When the young man said ‘no,’ the older “creep” can be heard saying “that’s too bad” before then trying to talk him into it again. Barnstable police officers caught up to the “creep” in the blue Subaru in the Kalmus Beach parking lot while the 18-year-old victim parked nearby in order to provide additional details. After speaking with the man, police decided to issue him a criminal summons so he can explain his actions to a judge. The court will decide what to do next. Because this is an ongoing investigation, HN has chosen to obscure the suspect’s identity for the time being. The victim is planning on filing for a Harassment Prevention Order in case the suspect ever approaches him again. One of the best things about living in downtown Hyannis is that our beautiful beaches are always nearby for a chance to escape the insanity. One of the worst things about living in downtown Hyannis is having to deal with random “creeps” and random insanity. IT’S. SO. FREAKING. ANNOYING! P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is brought to you by Randy Crawford…  [CLICK IT/CRANK IT! HEADPHONES ABSOLUTELY OBLIGATORY!]   * The initial details contained in the above report are based on police radio transmissions and information on scene. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
