TOP HN PHOTO INSERTS: Mark Ells, Barnstable Town Manager (pictured far left) ; Matthew Sonnabend, Town of Barnstable Chief of Police (pictured far right)   [HN NOTES & MULLINGS ON THE MATTER] The good news and the bad news. First, the good news. The good news is that HN has not heard rumors of any Barnstable Police supervisors drinking on the job in at least several years! Well done, lads! The bad news is, apparently several senior male officers never received the memo about keeping their pants on while on duty, because it seemingly continues to be an issue in recent years. (We’ve gotta work on that, boys! Especially you older fellers…) And yes, unfortunately, there have been several rumors of other officers, not just the chief, not being able to keep all of their inappropriate appendages inside their uniforms during the course of their patrol. But rest assured, HN will be looking into things in order to immediately dismiss or confirm these other disturbing past rumors. Although, it’s my understanding that at least one, maybe two, of the officers in question are now retired and no longer in uniform… … but nonetheless! Here’s that earlier, aforementioned memo: “Man bits are to remain inside one’s trousers during the course of one’s patrol! Unless, of course, when needing to visit the little boy’s room.” I hope we’re all clear on that moving forward. …………………… The following HN Video highlights PART TWO of a recent conversation with a 47-year-old Brazilian-American woman who allegedly initially met the current police chief during her Barnstable Police Officer application process… and in this SECOND video part, she continues telling a story of an alleged inappropriate sexual relationship, which perhaps better explains why Chief Sonnabend was recently replaced with Deputy Chief Jean Challies during his self-initiated “medical leave.” Also, since the Town of Barnstable has not yet been able to any shed light on this situation, the identity, images, and voice of this woman have been protected, and will remain protected for the time being… … and please remember, these are allegations, and we have not yet heard an explanation from either the Town of Barnstable or Chief Sonnabend. [DEVELOPING] BUT if these allegations are true, it raises serious concerns about the judgment of Chief Sonnabend, as well as the judgment of Town Manager Mark Ells. In 2018, Town Manager Mark Ells made the decision to appoint Matthew Sonnabend as Chief of the Barnstable Police Department, the largest and busiest law enforcement agency on Cape Cod. There were a total of four qualified candidates, and Mark Ells made the ultimate decision to pass over Lt. John Murphy, Lt. Jean Challies, and Lt. Mike Clark in order to appoint Sonnabend as the top cop in Barnstable. In light of these recent allegations related to Chief Sonnabend, concerning alleged behaviors unbecoming of a police officer (to say the very least), the judgment of Town Manager Ells is also now very much in question. You see, an HN informant, a Barnstable Police Officer around the time prior to the aforementioned hiring process, will go on record that he had a lengthy conversation about Sonnabend not being fit for the position due to allegedly having had an on-duty affair with another woman, a rookie cop he had been assigned to “field train…” [DEVELOPING – MUCH MORE ON THAT TOPIC LATER…] The following is PART TWO of an interview with a three-time Barnstable Police applicant who professes that she too had an ongoing sexual relationship with Chief Sonnabend, one that often happened while he was in uniform and on-duty, she says… [HN VIDEO – PRESS PLAY] P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is a brought to you by Quincy Jones…  [CLICK IT/CRANK IT!
