Don't you just love the way the U.S. government can't open a door without stubbing its toe? Here's this soldier, a specialist five in the U.S. Army, a nothing grade, which should have no access to anything Top Secret or even Secret or Classified, without at least a need-to-know. One thing we do know about Bradley Manning, who has been sitting in solitary confinement for two-thirds of a year and has still not been charged with a thing, is that he did not have a need-to-know. In fact, since the U.S. seems intent on denying him a "speedy trial," we can't even tell if he ever had a desire to know.
Was the U.S. Constitution torn up? Did I miss that or something? All of this nation's traitors have received speedy trials as prescribed by the U.S. Constitution. Some have been hanged. But their constitutional rights were not violated. What is the problem; did this enlisted soldier piss in some colonel's coffee? Seriously, did he turn those papers over to the Wikileaks people? You have one civilian witness, a known liar, claiming that he did. Well did he? Has he said he did?
Because if he is denying turning those papers over and the government can't prove that he did, that just might be why they haven't charged him with that crime. They can't. And if they can't charge him, why do they have him in custody? Apparently, he has no "direct access" to a lawyer, is often made to stay 23 hours a day in his cell. A friend who has visited him says he is slowly losing his mind. And that friend claims he is being harassed by the FBI for even visiting Mr. Manning.
So now we have a U.S. citizen who is being held as a political prisoner in the United States. Really, if you take the CIA, the FBI, the military justice system and officials at the White House and you put them together to get to the bottom of something or to solve a problem they will guaranteed screw it up every single time.
(Update): It was announced several hours after I wrote this piece that Investigators have no evidence that Manning even knows anyone at Wikileaks. They can't put Manning and Wikileaks together after almost a year of invesigations.
