HARWICH, MASSACHUSETTS — A Subaru Crosstrek stolen Brockton led a Dennis police patrolman on an early-morning pursuit that ended peacefully in a dead-end Harwich cul-de-sac Sunday, with the driver surrendering hands-out the window while the patrolman waited for backup. At approximately 2:15 a.m. on June 7, a Dennis patrolman spotted the vehicle traveling east on Great Western Road near the Dennis-Harwich town line. When the cruiser’s mobile data system flagged the Crosstrek as stolen, the officer notified dispatch and attempted to stop it. The driver refused, continuing into Harwich as backup became a problem: Harwich officers were tied up on another call and Dennis units were still minutes away. The situation grew more precarious when the suspect turned right onto Rocky Way — a road that dead-ends inside a residential development — then abruptly pulled into the Ridge Court cul-de-sac and parked in a random driveway. With backup still roughly a minute out, the lone occupant extended both hands through the driver’s window in an apparent show of compliance, according to the patrolman’s radio transmission to other units. Moments later, a second Dennis unit arrived. Officers took the driver into custody without further incident. The suspect was transported to Dennis Police Department headquarters, and the Crosstrek was towed there to be photographed by a member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit. The vehicle had been reported stolen out Brockton on May 30. Police confirmed the suspect is not a Dennis resident. He faces charges including receiving a stolen motor vehicle and failure to stop for police. Dennis police were still finalizing their report Sunday morning. Hyannis News has reached out for additional details and will update this story as information becomes available. P.S. – Today’s Hytown Vignette is brought to you by Ben Harper… [CLICK IT/CRANK IT!
