SOUTH YARMOUTH – [NEW DETAILS] – According to a report filed in Barnstable District Court, this past Sunday morning – March 19, 2023 – shortly after midnight, Patrolman Jesse Mabe of the Yarmouth Police Department was dispatched to an address on Diane Ave. The caller, the father of the victim, reported someone had just attacked his daughter and broke her fingers. The attacker was said to be a male who had already fled the scene on foot. Upon arrival, Patrolman Mabe reportedly found a young woman “screaming and crying” in a porch entryway to the home. The female victim was holding her hands in front of her, bleeding heavily. Patrolman Mabe reportedly observed blood droplets “all over her legs and both hands.” The victim was reportedly “hysterical,” and Patrolman Mabe initially had difficulty gathering information from her. “She stated she did not know her attackers name, but that she had him on Facebook. The suspect was described to me as a black male, approximately six feet tall, with a tattoo on his forehead. [The victim] told me the suspect had been parked on the street,” according to Patrolman Mabe’s report. The victim reportedly told Patrolman Mabe that the suspect had come to buy weed off her. But at some point, the suspect was asked to leave because he was “asking for too much weed.” Patrolman Mabe’s report continues as follows: “[The victim] and the suspect had discussed over Facebook that she would sell him a half ounce of weed. She hung out with the male a couple of weeks prior and the two had mutual friends growing up. [The victim] stated the male eventually showed up when she had already gone to bed. She stated her father told her her friend was there and she said he needed to wait a minute. She stated they were going to smoke together and she was going to sell him weed. She stated she was sitting on her bedroom floor rolling joints, when the male suddenly came in the house. [The victim] asked him to wait outside, which he initially did. She stated the male walked into the house a second time and entered her room. She stated he had a friend with him who was wearing a full face mask. She described the friend as a black male, approximately five foot nine. “[The victim] stated the suspect kept asking her for a quarter pound of weed and she kept telling him she didn’t have that much. She stated she was getting annoyed and she kept repeating herself. Finally she told him he didn’t need to pay her for the weed she was giving him and that he needed to leave. [The victim] said at this time she was standing in the hallway that abuts the side entrance with the broken glass door. [HN NOTE: The report indicates the glass door had been reportedly broken this same evening.] She stated the male snatched the weed from her hands and ran away. (She later stated this was his bag of weed and another bag that was hers). She attempted to stop him by grabbing the back of his sweatshirt, tearing it as he and the friend ran away. She stated he ran away, then came back a second time. [The victim] stated she was standing [in front] of the front door when the suspect came back. [At this time, she reportedly screamed for her dad to help her.] She stated she thought the male was going to attack her and that he went into the house on his own and stole her phone, which was on the floor in the hallway. I asked her clearly if she had seen the suspect take her phone and she said yes. She stated she was pushed onto the floor at this time. I asked her if she thought her arm injury occurred when she attempted to stop the suspect from running away the first time or when he came back and she stated she was unsure. She then stated the door broke because she [was] “flung through it” when pushed back by the suspect…” Upon further investigation involving Facebook and other officers, Patrolman Mabe was able to identify the suspect as allegedly being Wazir Beyah, and that there was probable cause for his arrest. As you will see in the following HN Video, Trooper Bohnenberger of the Massachusetts State Police stopped a vehicle on Union Street. Wazir Beyah was believed to be a passenger inside the vehicle. While asking Beyah to step out of the vehicle, Beyah can be seen suddenly leading the trooper and a Yarmouth Police sergeant on a wild foot pursuit. The pursuit ended with the suspect being taken into custody at Taser-point. The victim’s iPhone 13 was reportedly located during the traffic stop and collected as evidence, along with three sandwich bags of weed. Wazir Beyah, age 25, was arrested and charged with Burglary, A&B with a Dangerous Weapon, Larceny from a Building (two counts), and Disorderly Conduct (during the traffic stop). During his arraignment on Monday – 3/20/2023 – Beyah was order held without bail at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility due to “FINAL HEARING ON DANGEROUSNESS PENDING.” Beyah is scheduled for a detention hearing later this morning, 3/24/23. * The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The following HN Video shows Sunday morning’s foot pursuit which ended with Behah ultimately being taken into custody at Taser-point.
