[HN VIDEO NOTES]
.) All available Barnstable Police squad cars scramble toward the Barnstable address in question.
.) A male is said to be attempting to break into the house.
.) At first, it sounds like a B & E in progress.
.) While en route, officers learn the female caller and male “intruder” are known to each other. That they are, or were, in a girlfriend/boyfriend relationship.
.) This new information does little to assuage the urgency of the officers’ response.
.) The first officers on scene establish there is probable cause to arrest the male for domestic assault and battery.
.) Responding officers are provided with a basic description of the male suspect who is believed to have just fled the scene on foot.
.) The female who called police is evaluated by Barnstable Rescue for injuries sustained during the disturbance. She is not transported to hospital.
.) A K9 unit begins tracking behind the residence and an arrest of the suspect is made soon thereafter.
.) The male suspect is transported to Cape Cod Hospital for injuries sustained during the domestic disturbance. He remained in police custody while being attended to at CCH.
.) The video you are about to see covers a call that is not unusual here on the Cape. Domestic disturbances are extremely volatile situations that can quickly escalate and become violent, sometimes ending with serious injuries… sometimes even ending in homicide. HN has covered at least [four] separate domestic homicides here on the Cape within the past year. (Over the decades, I’ve unfortunately covered too many violent, domestic related crime scenes to remember…) Of the [four] recent domestic homicides that currently come to mind, [three] of the homicide victims were women, and the [fourth], most recent homicide victim was a male.
