BARNSTABLE – The driver of a black Hyundai Sonata, MA registration # 2WWB86, reportedly rented out of Bridgewater, allegedly took multiple intentional measures to evade being stopped by police early this morning – Thursday, August 4, 2022.
The pursuit began shortly after 1:00 a.m., with a Barnstable Police patrolman attempting to stop the black Hyundai Sonata in the area of Old Stage Road in Centerville, approaching the Service Road. The Sonata initially appeared as though it was going to pull over and remain stopped. As the patrolman began to exit his cruiser to make contact, the driver threw the Sonata into gear and took off in the direction of the highway, on the Service Road, approaching the area of Exit 5 at Route 6.
The pursuit was on, with speeds reaching approximately 60 miles per hour, according to radio transmissions. At the Route 149/Service Road rotary, the fleeing vehicle changed directions and headed back toward residential areas along Race Lane in Marstons Mills. Officers lost the suspect vehicle after it had allegedly “blacked out,” meaning that it turned off its lights while continuing on.
As you will hear in the following HN “video,” the fleeing black Sonata was last observed traveling north along Quaker Meeting House Road in the Town of Sandwich, in the direction of Route 6A.
Massachusetts State Troopers and Bourne Police Officers immediately began “setting up” in the area of the Sagamore Bridge, as it was believed the fleeing vehicle could be heading that way to cross onto the Mainland. The wanted Sonata never crossed the Sagamore, according to various sources.
The suspect(s) were not captured and the investigation is ongoing…
