Stolen Brockton Subaru Cornered in Harwich Cul-de-Sac After Failing to Stop for Dennis Patrolman

HARWICH, MASSACHUSETTS — A Subaru Crosstrek stolen Brockton led a Dennis police patrolman on an early-morning pursuit that ended peacefully in a dead-end Harwich cul-de-sac Sunday, with the driver surrendering hands-out the window while the patrolman waited for backup.
At approximately 2:15 a.m. on June 7, a Dennis patrolman spotted the vehicle traveling east on Great Western Road near the Dennis-Harwich town line. When the cruiser’s mobile data system flagged the Crosstrek as stolen, the officer notified dispatch and attempted to stop it. The driver refused, continuing into Harwich as backup became a problem: Harwich officers were tied up on another call and Dennis units were still minutes away.
The situation grew more precarious when the suspect turned right onto Rocky Way — a road that dead-ends inside a residential development — then abruptly pulled into the Ridge Court cul-de-sac and parked in a random driveway. With backup still roughly a minute out, the lone occupant extended both hands through the driver’s window in an apparent show of compliance, according to the patrolman’s radio transmission to other units.
Moments later, a second Dennis unit arrived. Officers took the driver into custody without further incident. The suspect was transported to Dennis Police Department headquarters, and the Crosstrek was towed there to be photographed by a member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit.
The vehicle had been reported stolen out Brockton on May 30. Police confirmed the suspect is not a Dennis resident. He faces charges including receiving a stolen motor vehicle and failure to stop for police.
Dennis police were still finalizing their report Sunday morning. Hyannis News has reached out for additional details and will update this story as information becomes available.

WEST YARMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS — A pickup truck traveling west on Route 28 veered across the oncoming lane, jumped a curb and slammed into a utility pole in front of the Yarmouth Resort shortly before midnight Friday.
The driver remained at the scene and spoke with Yarmouth police officers, with a Portuguese-speaking officer assisting during questioning. Despite significant front-end damage to the truck — including a completely missing wheel assembly — the driver showed no obvious serious injuries. He was placed on a stretcher and taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation.
Firefighters and police followed a trail of debris back to the damaged pole, which Eversource was called to inspect. The wrecked pickup was towed from the scene. Yarmouth police are investigating the cause.

Falmouth Man Arrested for Kidnapping, Assault in Violent Home Invasion
FALMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS — Falmouth police arrested 27-year-old Neil O’Flaherty of Falmouth on Thursday in connection with a May 25 home invasion and assault in the Ashumet Valley neighborhood.
Shortly after 9:41 p.m. that night, officers responded to Austin Stokes Drive where an unknown man had climbed through a bedroom window, assaulted a resident, and held the victim against their will. A second resident interrupted the attack, prompting the suspect to flee through the same window. The intruder was not known by the victim.
After an initial search involving a K-9 unit and drone failed to locate the suspect, Falmouth detectives eventually linked O’Flaherty to the crime following his arrest in a separate Mashpee break-in on June 1. On June 4, officers served an arrest warrant and executed a search warrant at his residence, seizing related evidence.
O’Flaherty faces charges of aggravated burglary, kidnapping, assault with intent to murder, assault and battery on a person age 60 or older, and breaking and entering in the nighttime for a felony. He was arraigned Friday in Falmouth District Court and held.
Falmouth police thanked the Mashpee Police Department, Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office, and members of the public who provided tips during the investigation.

Truro Man Sentenced to 14½ to 16 Years for Raping Teen Who Considered Him Her ‘Uncle’
TRURO, MASSACHUSETTS — A Barnstable Superior Court judge sentenced Richard Reynolds to 14½ to 16 years in state prison after a jury convicted him of raping an 18-year-old girl who considered him her “uncle” figure.
In August 2015, the then-41-year-old contractor — who was friendly with the victim’s mother — took the teenager to an unoccupied home in Truro and raped her. The victim disclosed the assault in February 2023.
Following a six-day trial and five hours of deliberations, a Barnstable County jury convicted Reynolds of rape on April 30. Judge Michael Cahillane imposed the sentence.
The case was investigated by Lt. Steven Raneo of the Truro Police Department with assistance from Wellfleet and Barnstable police. Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Isaacs prosecuted.
Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert J. Galibois credited the victim’s courage in testifying and thanked the Truro Police Department and other agencies for their work.

ABOVE: HN “So Hytown It Hurts” Snapshot
Hyannis, Massachusetts — 3:00 a.m. A man streaks past on a bicycle, pushing an office chair on rollers northward along Yarmouth Road toward the highway.
It was so purely, achingly Hytown it actually hurt.
I snatched my full-frame Canon from the seat beside me and quickly squeezed off a single frame while halted at the traffic light. Where on earth was he headed with that rolling throne at three in the morning? Who knows… and who cares!
These are the fleeting, surreal images I witness on the overnight streets — night after night — and every so often I remember, with a quiet jolt of gratitude, how blessed I am to be the one chasing them.

“Rookie” Patrolwoman Nabs Drunk Driver After Pickup Found Missing Half Its Transmission at Hyannis Traffic Light [HN Photos]

Above: Barnstable Police Patrolwoman Rebecca Tatzel-Mandel handcuffs a suspected drunk driver while her field training officer keeps a close eye on the procedure.

HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS — A newly sworn Barnstable Police patrolwoman made a memorable arrest Thursday night when she responded to what turned out to be an alleged drunk driver whose pickup truck was found missing roughly half its transmission at a Hyannis intersection.
Shortly after 11 p.m. on June 4, 2026, Patrolwoman Rebecca Tatzel-Mandel and her Field Training Officer, Spencer Jackson, were dispatched to the corner of Sea Street and South Street after a caller reported a truck stopped at the traffic light and leaking a steady stream of what turned out to be transmission fluid. The driver initially remained behind the wheel and was said to not be moving around, which escalated concern.
When officers arrived, James Fitzpatrick, a man in his late 30s from Hanover, was standing outside the driver’s side of the disabled pickup. The truck had apparently struck something hard enough to rip away roughly half its transmission; officers later located several transmission parts scattered in the area. Fluid poured across the roadway and into a nearby storm drain. The vehicle was completely disabled.
Patrolwoman Tatzel-Mandel administered field sobriety tests to Fitzpatrick. He was placed under arrest on charges of operating under the influence of liquor and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, according to Barnstable police. He was transported to headquarters for booking.
The Hyannis Fire Department was called to handle the hazardous transmission-fluid cleanup, and the damaged pickup truck was eventually towed from the scene.

Tatzel-Mandel is no stranger to high-pressure situations…
Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, she served as a U.S. Army Military Police officer before receiving an honorable discharge. In 2020 she joined the Hyannis Fire Department as a paramedic/firefighter, earning both the Life Saving Award and Community Service Award. She helped launch the Cape and Islands Youth Fire Setter Intervention Program and served as a Tactical Emergency Medic on the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council SWAT Team.
Earlier this spring she graduated at the top of her Plymouth Police Academy class — serving as class president and earning the Top Physical Fitness Award — and had just begun her patrol officer field training after being sworn in as a Barnstable Police Officer on April 7, 2026.
Her quick thinking had already saved a life weeks earlier. On May 26, Tatzel-Mandel and Officer Brandon Sanders responded to a vicious dog attack inside a Hyannis home. According to a BPD statement, they found a severely injured dog named Newnew bleeding heavily in the kitchen. Working together, the officers applied QuikClot and bandages to stabilize the dog before rushing her to an animal hospital. The next day they visited Newnew, who was recovering well thanks to their efforts and emergency veterinary care. [see following BPD photo/HN edits…]

MARSTONS MILLS, MASSACHUSETTS — Barnstable police and Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills firefighters responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash into a tree at the intersection of Old Falmouth Road and Route 149 shortly before midnight Wednesday evening.
Due to a language barrier with the caller, it was unclear whether anyone was injured, prompting a full emergency response to the scene.
Fortunately, responders found that both occupants had already self-extricated. After evaluation by ambulance crew, neither required transport to a hospital.
The driver and passenger remained on the scene, were fully cooperative, and showed no signs of impairment. At the time of this report, there was no indication that the driver would face any criminal charges. The Barnstable Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.

ABOVE HN PHOTOS: Barnstable Police officers recently provided early-morning backup for a state trooper conducting a traffic stop on Main Street in Hyannis. The trooper searched the vehicle while three young women were told to remain in front of it. One of the passengers became noticeably agitated and vocal about the traffic stop taking too long, while the other two urged her to “chill out.” After cooperating with the trooper and completing brief field sobriety tests, the driver was free to leave the scene. Nobody was placed in handcuffs, despite one of the women pushing the boundaries with everyone on scene — including her friends. It remains unclear why the trooper conducted the stop, why he searched the vehicle, or whether the driver received a motor vehicle citation. The key point is that because the other two passengers kept “cooler heads” and remained cooperative, the situation did not escalate and everyone was free to leave — to possibly dispute the stop later in court if needed.
Moral of the story: Drama makes things worse, while cooler heads generally prevail. (Please make a note of it…)

WATCH: Bizarre Hyannis Police Chase — Driver Leads Officers in Circles Before Driveway Stop as K9 Units Search for Evidence

HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – Shortly after midnight, a routine traffic stop in Hyannis escalated into a bizarre police pursuit when the driver of a gray 2023 Toyota RAV4 suddenly fled from Barnstable Police and refused to stop.
The vehicle turned onto West Main Street from Seaboard Lane, and headed toward the West End rotary, traveling approximately 10–15 mph over the posted speed limit. Additional cruisers joined the chase as Massachusetts State Police troopers were notified and moved into the area to assist if necessary.
In a strange twist, the RAV4 turned onto Megan Road and began leading officers in circles around Connemara Circle and Athlone Way before abruptly pulling into a driveway on Athlone Way.
Two Barnstable Police K9 units quickly responded to assist — one trained to detect firearms and the other trained to detect narcotics. Because the vehicle had been circling the neighborhood, officers believe the occupants may have been attempting to discard evidence during the pursuit.
The driver, 22-year-old Jasaya Young of Marstons Mills, was taken into custody without incident. She is charged with Failure to Stop for Police, Marked Lanes Violation, Speeding, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Operating on a Suspended License.
The male passenger, 29-year-old Clyde Perry Jr., became involved in a scuffle with officers before Hyannis News arrived on scene, leaving his hands bloodied. He faces charges of Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest, according to Sergeant Nathan St. Onge of the Barnstable Police Department.
Both individuals were released on bail by the time of this report.
Hyannis News captured the tense moments with dashcam, bodycam, and regular footage, along with actual Barnstable Police and Massachusetts State Police radio transmissions. [DEVELOPING]

Responders use simple color-coded triage to prioritize: red for immediate/life-threatening injuries, yellow for serious but delayed cases, and black for those unlikely to survive given available resources.
This approach follows models promoted by programs such as ALERRT and NFPA 3000, though it is not confirmed which specific training systems Barnstable Police and Hyannis Firefighters currently use.
The following HN Audio/Visual contains several still photos and actual training audio from earlier this evening…
